My 50mm needed company so I found myself wishing that I had a nice fast lens at about the 80mm range. I know... I know, I just got the 7-200 F/4L and if I had gotten the F/2.8, I'd be set right? lol. Well, I wanted just a little faster than F/2.8 so my next option was the 85mm F/1.8. I'm been wanting this lens for a while now. The 50mm on my 20D is a good portrait lens, but sometimes I do find it a bit on the short end. I'd like to be further away from my subjects on some occasions. I think the 85mm will fit in real nicely. I've just noticed my gear bag is starting to look alot fuller these days. It builds up quickly doesn't it? I wish I could afford the F/1.2L version though... *sigh* someday!

Forkball, congrats on the 85! I take itt you are pleased with it? It matches pretty closely to a 'standard' portrait lens in 35mm money, and is definitely one on my ever increasing shopping list!

Thanks, Yeah... I haven't gotten mine yet(ordered it this morning from B&H along with another flash and lightstand setup), but I was using a friend's and I LOVED it. On the 20D it's like the 135 of course which makes it the PERFECT portrait lens in terms of focal length.
