Photozone has a test of the 18-200 version, which is what I'd recommend if you absolutaley have to have a super zoom. http://photozone.de/8Reviews/lenses/sigma_18200_3563/index.htm
I don't think that you would find 28mm to be wide enough if used on a crop body dslr. For just casual shooting you'd probably be fine with such a lens. Just keep in mind that optically you make sacrifices in order to get that large of a zoom range. I think that you'll find that most serious shooters would cover that much zoom range with a 2 lens setup.
