What is the advantage of the POTN strap compared to the Canon strap that came with my 30D? Will I benefit from the POTN strap if I don't currently own any big L lenses? See my sig for the lenses I currently own.
Thanks.

It is wider, much more comfortable, and you show your support for the forums. :)

I got one for my 300D. When you add a battery grip, a flash, and a lens that is heavier than the kit lens (which most are except maybe the 50 mm f/1.8) that is a lot of weight. The POTN strap distributes the weight better. It is much more comfortable. Also, you can disconnect it quickly, if need be.

Even with just a light lens it's a good improvement, the standard strap really rubbed the back of my neck when I was wearing a collarless t-shirt.

I got sick of the uncomfortable Canon one, so took it off. Got the POTN one based on all the positive comments & it's staying on the camera. :) Besides, it helps support this forum.

Not only looks cooler but it is cooler then the OEM strap. It don't shift while you walk and therefore won't rub your neck red as much or as fast. I like it so much I bought a second one so that when I get my second body it there for me to put it on. I have the Black and RED.

I have the non-POTN double ended version...ie you can hook 2 cameras at the same time to it. It's extremely nice. I had 2 cameras on me throughout Disney...one with Bigma or the 70-200 f/2.8 and the other with the 24-70 f/2.8 - very little discomfort. Other than the d@mn heat. :)
BTW I'm so cool I don't need POTN points.

Just ordered a black POTN strap - It says they will have more in by June 23rd. I hope this is correct - I'm leaving for my trip on July 15th and hope to have the strap before I leave.
Thanks for the good info and recommendations on the strap. :)

I love my green and blue straps and won't even consider putting another Canon "Why don't you just rob me" strap on my cameras again. :) At my son's graduation last week I had the strap with camera on, my purse, and the Velocity 9 on. Well, my husband had to take that picture of me on the avatar, and I couldn't get the camera off me under 2 other straps, then remembered "HA! The quick release!" Brilliant, I say. Took it off in 2 seconds, gave hubby the camera, he took, the wonderful shot you see here and back on my 20D went on the strap. And, like everyone else, looking forward to the wrist strap when it comes available. Also, I figure, I should donate to the POTN every quarter, at least. It's my favorite thing to log on all day and I am totally entertained by everyone's goings on. Thanks and keep those POTN straps in stock!

just out of curiosity, (since it doesnt state the width of the attachment part of the strap) will the POTN strap work on the rebel xt? The reason why I ask is that my friend has a strap from his film SLR that is too wide to fit on his rebel xt.

I also like that you can disconnect the main portion of the strap. Comes in real handy when putting on a tripod, I can get the stupid neck strap out of the way. Now if I could find something similar in the handstrap so I can get it out the way in portrait mode when I forget my remote release.
And it is comfortable enough that I actually leave it attached to my camera, the Canon OEM neck straps were the first things to come off (or not put on). I think my 1DsMkII strap is still in the plastic bag it came in.
I may need need to order a third POTN strap for my XL-2 video camera as I am starting to use that more then I was and the shoulder strap for that was not very good either.

I'm delighted with my POTN strap, though because I'm a wheelchair user, I need my strap rather short. I changed the loop connectors for 3/8" Optech connectors (which I ordered from pcasicola's eBay store - look under procameragear), and I'm now happy. OK - I've turned my Pro Loop strap into a Pro strap, but I find it works for me.
Taking the little end sleeves from the OEM strap helped to ensure the strap falls away when I want it to.

Mine arrived in the UK today (a black one) and it looks cool. I've had the Optech-branded one for a few years which is looking a little battered now, so this is a welcome change.
Good price too - the Optechs are approx £18 here in the UK - the POTN strap cost me £14.50 incl. postage. Nice one!

I've got a black one that's been on my XT since the day it arrived. Plus I have a green one in case I want to coordinate my accessories with my fashion (j/k!).
Actually, it's just in case I get a whim to get a second body...!!! Maybe the "if you build it, they will come" theory will transfer to the strap. "If you buy it, the 2nd body will arrive!"
Everybody ought to have at least one.

Talent you can foster and develop.
Cool is tougher to accomplish, but it comes OEM with POTN straps (black ones, but other colors come with the "cool essentials" version).
With that strap on, you'll have the toughest part conquered! ;)

What's the difference between the Pro and the Pro loop? the terminals? If I'm not wrong the Pro loop, has that kind of the P&S terminal connecting system? and the Pro is like the regular Canon OEM SLR strap? please help so I can choose... Thanks
Also, will it fit to my S2 also? it has the same wide connectos as the XT
DavidW
9th of July 2006 (Sun), 11:45
The difference is the connectors - Pro has Optech 3/8" connectors, Pro Loop has the loop connectors. If you want the 3/8" connectors to fit to a POTN strap, you can buy them here (http://cgi.ebay.com/OpTech-3-8-Nylon-System-Connectors-Free-US-Shipping_W0QQitemZ7565115992QQihZ017QQcategoryZ643 43QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem) - it's the same store as the POTN strap comes from, but you can't combine the shipping.
Number 4 in the picture in that auction shows the loop connectors.

I just added the extra connectors to the strap ordering page in case anyone wants to order additional connectors. In the U.S. it's free shipping, but International members must order these with a strap because there is no shipping added on to the order when you add the connectors to your cart.
The Pro Loop connectors come on all the POTN straps and is shown next to the green strap on the ordering page, and the 3/8" webbing connectors (aka Pro) are shown next to the red strap.

Compared to the one that comes with the Rebel XT?
TIA
DavidW
25th of July 2006 (Tue), 10:09
It's a little bit wider - I haven't got my stock strap to hand, so I can't give you a measurement. What makes the difference is that the main part of the Pro Loop strap (POTN strap) is stretchy neoprene stitched to another firmer material, so it has a bit of 'give' to spread the weight.
It makes a huge difference overall, and I wouldn't want to be without mine.

I am going to start with the loops, but think I might go for the webbing as it makes the strap longer. I like to wear the camera across my chest and at the side when not shooting, and most straps I have looked at are not long enough for this to be done comfortably. So, we shall see how the strap does with the pro loops.

The 3/8" connectors allow for a longer or shorter strap than the Loop connectors. I wanted my strap extra short (because I often wear a chest carried Lowepro Toploader), and changing to the 3/8" connectors allowed me to do that.

Question concerning the extra loops:
it says...
Extra Connectors
$7 w/free shipping
(Int'l free w/strap order)
so does that mean if I order one from Japan, I can get an extra set of connectors for free?
DavidW
6th of August 2006 (Sun), 09:06
No - you have to pay for the extra connectors, but there's no additional shipping to pay if you order a strap at the same time.

Finally I got mine... two blacks, nice, very nice, well not the POTN, but the OP Techs,
I like the plain stuff, no logos :-P I wish I could clean off the Op Tech logo too, but it looks like stamped, and I think better not to try
I think I got them from the same store that sells the POTN ones. Procamera Gear in eBay, but I'm not sure...

Does the strap get damaged if I bend it too much, for many times? let's say bend it, to make it fit in a tight case?

shipped thursday, arrived this morning by the royal mail (who, I may add, are amazing compared to Canada post...)
and I object to it being "Free shipping" - its obvious its just included in the price - after all, if it was really free, then international would be the same price as domestic. It should really read "Shipping Included"

How did a camera strap get to Scotland before it got to a US address when shipped on the same day? :(We've had some straps take longer going 50 miles within the same state than the ones that go 3000 miles to the U.K.
I guess the key is to get it out of the US Postal Service hands as fast as possible.

Or key to use another carrier? I've had several bad experiences with USPS...most recent - 70-300 IS USM overnighted - box mangled like all hell; absolutely horrible.
BTW *still haven't received it* it's either tomorrow or bust since I'm moving...then further delay in FWDing to new address *Sigh*

Well I am in the minority here. I ordered it and didn't like it. The strap was constructed solid and was very comfortable, but it just wasn't long enough for me. At the longest length, it wound up at my upper ab bumping (annoying) against me everytime I moved.
Really though, it is not the strap as much as it is me. I am a bodybuilder so the strap really doesn't settle over my shoulders like normal people, it rides up my traps and cuts into my neck.
If the strap was longer so I could wear it across my chest and have it hang on my opposite side like a gun holster, I would be happy. I sort of made a strap that does this myself by purchasing a very cheap travel bag and using the tiny strap from that.

but it just wasn't long enough for meIt's a modular strap. You can order the standard 3/8" nylon webbing connectors which can be made at least 4-6" longer than the loop connectors.

The extra connectors are now on the strap ordering page (http://www.procameragear.com/potn/strap2.html). Over at the right, there's a drop-down selection for Extra Connectors. You want 3/8 webbing, which gives you the option of a shorter or longer strap than with the (standard) Pro Loop connectors.

I love the pro loop connectors because of how short they are...when you disconnect the neck strap it makes a great little handle for the camera. The thing I wish they had was a piece to extend the neck strap and make it longer. Bottom line I would like to keep the pro loop connector for the camera end and find something to extend the neck strap end. Anyone have any ideas? Basically a strap that has the black plastic snap connectors at both ends would be great. One for each side of the neck strap that are about 6 inches long or so would work wonders!
