Hello all! I really need your help. I have a Canon A70. The batteries that it came with are now dead and I went and bought a recharger with new batteries. The recharger is made by Energizer and the batteries are also Energizer rechargeable, NiMH, 1850 mAh, and 1.2 Volts. My concern is about the voltage. The batteries that camera came with are 1.5V, however when I told that to salesman, he said that 1.2V will work fine also. I need a second opinion on this. Is the whole thing going to work fine and not damage the camera or do I need to buy Canon specific recharger with batteries? Thank you in advance!

I have been using the very same batteries for several months without problem.
You will find that the larger capacity NiMh batteries all output 1.2V, at least Uniross, Energiser and Hama do. The internal voltage regulators in the camera will do their job.

I use the same rechargables with my A60, and they work fine.
Mine last aprox. 250 images. (depends if you use flash and/or LCD - I always use LCD and about 50% with flash)

All AA rechargeables are 1.2v and work just fine in almost anything designed for standard AA batteries. The A60 is no exception. I would recommend you get the largest capacity NiMH AA's you can find. See my reply on this thread (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=17906#99141) for more details). Remember that rechargeables require several charge/discharge cycles to reach their full capacity.

the reason they said to only use their charger, is that they can't test all chargers on the market, and they know this works well for the task.
I guess...but it's no problem using anything else, to my personal opinion, since I'm using something of a non-brand with excellent result.
