I have recently taken a picture with my 10D at an extreme motocross event. I have been asked by the organising company to name a price for one of my photos to be used on their company poster. This is the kind of thing you just can't thumb suck.. Some help would be appreciated. I am excited but i know not to try and be greedy either.

I'll give my 2 cents on this...
First I would ask, how much potential do you have for contracting further sales...if it's a one shot deal and you'll never hear from the organizing company again, sell them the image (you lose copyright) ($1000-$1200CAD would be reasonable) they could use it on any merchandising though, but you are only paid once, good exposure though, and ask for samples of all work used with the image, great for the portfolio. It sounds like this is a one shot deal for you...If you are interested in establishing a continued relationship with the organization, perhaps a lower price...

This is just an idea how you could get a "feel for the market." Contact a professional photographer or an ad agency who does this type of work and ask what they would charge for this type of shoot? It wouldn't hurt to just ask the question.
Or you could donate the photo with your digital signature in the corner and specify it could not be removed if the photo was used. That way you could get a lot of free advertising for future work.
