I was walking by the Loggia dei Lanzi in Piazza della Signoria in Florence, when I saw this art student sitting on the ledge and drawing Cellini's Perseus (part of the pedestal can bee seen in lower left corner). I continued to walk, when wind begun to blow. Then I took this picture.

That's the way to study art.

Nice capture.

Might have been cool to see more of what she was drawing in the photo too.

Or even a hint of her face

About the face, there is nothing I can do. No shots. Sorry. This was just a shot taken when the wind started to blow.

However, what she was drawing was this, i.e. in the pictures below.

Commisioned by the Medici's, Cellini created this marvelous work to show that actually, he is better sculptor than Michelangelo or Donatello. When compared to Michelangelo's "David" or Donatello's "Judith and Holofernes", I think he succeeded (These were the works he tried to "blow away").

As per my guide, the sole reason that this is not considered as the greatest sculpture of all times, is that the subject is so violent. And I am inclined to agree.

Well. After so many trips to Italy, I think that Cellini may be right.

The greatest sculpture I have seen is either this or Michelangelo's "Pieta" in Vatican. Definataly it would not be Michelangelo's "David". I would vote for Cellini, but obviously this is a matter of taste. Hard to decide the "Pieta" is also stunningly beatufil.

I think seeing a face, drawing, or what she was drawing would help. Sorry, but it is the back of someone doing something :|
