Picking up the 1Dm2N and we're trying to avoid paypal fees. I can either send via cashier's check through my bank which is next door to my office.
Or I can pay with a money order(s) through the post office (http://www.usps.com/money/sendingmoney/moneyorders/welcome.htm).
What do you think would be safer/easier? I already talked to the seller over the phone. If someone were to snag the check it would be useless unless they were the seller because it's made out to him right?

Unless you know the seller, you shouldn't pay them in any other manner than Paypal. The fees are worth it when you're talking about the possible loss of that much money.

Yeah I was a little reluctant at first. I checked his ebay references plus talked to him on the phone and emailed eachother back & forth. I'm gonna go for it.
I guess I'll go with cashier's check because the bank's next door.

One option that alot of people forget about is money wires. I agree if you don't know they person any of these options are risky. but from now on I will only deal with money wires. even Cashier checks can be forged and or canceled.

My bank charges like $30 to wire money. It's ridiculous. And Western Union is big time known for ebay scams.

Ok forget the bank. I was gonna pay half from checking & half through my credit card. Their fees are just as bad as paypal's so I might as well paypal him. At least it'll go through right away.... damn 3% adds up

If the price is really too good to be true, it is. Trust me. You don't want to avoid Paypal if you want the transaction to work out. If the seller is a scam, he/she will turn down Paypal.

Paypal isn't that bullet proof!!!!! If the seller has negative feedback and he does do a runner with your money :( Paypal won't be so keen to pay you back the money you've lost and will try and get out of paying out to you, as I found out not so long ago :( Credit card payment is usually the safest, but there again there all con merchants with there charges!!!!!

Yes. But a cashier's check or money order takes 90 days to cancel. That money is in limbo for 90 days. My friend had that situation and it was torture. And that's only if they don't cash it in.

He's got 200+ positives & zero negatives in the past 12 months. Nothing is fullproof but I do feel more comfortable with paypal. It's gonna come out cheaper than I'd get elsewhere but it's not a "steal" that's too good to be true IMO. Cross your fingers.

It may well be legitimate, but you should also be aware of just how many ebay accounts are hijacked and used to defraud people. Secondly, have you checked what any of these feedbacks were for. 200 feedbacks selling micromachines and then suddenly a 1D shows up is also a warning flag.

I go just the opposite... If a buyer has no history, I insist on a USPS money order or bank check. Much too easy for a buyer to claim non-receipt, and Paypal is far too eager to find in favor of the buyer.
