Hi,

I'm in need of some rechargable batteries for my 430ex, was wondering if you guys can help me out!

i dont want to spend too much, does it matter what charger you get? from the looks of things it only seems that im paying for faster charge times - which i'm not bothered about as i will be leaving it overnight.

so, would you recomment getting a cheap (£15) charger, and spending the money on better batteries? (2700 mAh?)

im thinking the ansmann photocam III here (http://www.warehouseexpress.com/index.cfm?photo/battpacks/ansmann.html?cd=1061515) for £16.95 with a FREE torch wahey! and then later on if i felt i needed faster recycle times i could purchase some higher capacity batteries?

would be good if you guys could offer me some advice on this.. thanks

Stu

I use the Energizer NiMH batteries, and the "slow" charger. Four batts and the charger were like US$20. The fast charge - so I've read - shortens the life of the batts.

Have a look at the Uniross Sprint 15 charger from My Memory...

We bought one of these from them (plus a more expensive model they don't seem to stock anymore) together with a bunch of extra fast-charge batteries - Sprint 15 works great, but you really need to allow around 30-40 minutes for a full charge - not 15!

From various web sites & forums it seems that Energizer NIMH appear to get the vote. Can be obtained in the UK. from Curry's who also do them packaged with a specific charger.

Uniross are about the best I have found in the UK, ansmann I have not found to be that good. You can get Uniross cheap from:

A slower charger is better if you dont mind using it over night, just make sure it has some sort of cut off circuit, thermal is better than a timed cut off.

Getting a good and slightly expensive charger makes sense, the cheapest ones cut off from heat emissions only. What if the charger doesn't charge your batteries to the max -waste of money too. I bought a Duracell, model: CEF80KTN some years ago. You switch between NiMH and NiCd types. Payed more than planned (doesn't that happen every so often in this field?).

or you can spend 100-150 on a quantum turbo battery and never worry about batteries again, though you do have one more thing to lug around then

I also use the Energizer 2500 with the slow charger. Also carry four non rechargable Energizers in my bag just in case.

It's amazing how much longer the NiMH last. I invested in a second set of batts so if the ones in the flash get tired, I have a spare set on deck.

If you dont mind paying then this is about as good as it gets, I have two and you can get them in the UK (wish I found that out, I imported from the states)

And I use Sanyo and Uniross cells and I can go for weeks with out charging them, this is with average flash use.
