There is a dealer on E-bay offering a EOS 1Ds for $3350 about 1/2 the list price. When I emailed and inquired how he could sell so cheap he said his father was a manager at Canon. Sounds fishy to me. Any thoughts? If it sounds too good to be true........

Another one of the Ebay scams. Stay clear unless you like the idea of being electronically mugged.

I don't know which is more amazing:

1. That these guys think that someone could actually be stupid enough to fall for this sort of thing,

OR

2. that someone could actually be stupid enough to fall for this sort of thing.

I'm getting ready to sell a bunch of stuff on eBay, and it has me more than a little nervous because a couple of the things are relatively valuable.

Don't be so hard guys.
We often hear stories about the markup on electronics, etc,so it's no surprise that it sounds half believable.
gmolony-stay clear of ANY suspiciously low priced auctions on epay. There are scamers that are regularly taking over accounts of good sellers so they have apparent good feedback. That's only one of the many possible variations on ways to part you from your money.

IF you want to really test the guy, tell him you want to pick it up personally. My guess is that he will not return your email....I've tried it and no one ever answers back.
Go CUBS!!!!!!

Usually these e-bay scammers ask you to send your money to some foreign eastern European country via an international bank transfer. If that isn't enough to make you suspicious....

Oh I guarantee someone will send their money. There are some pretty dull pencils in the box of life out there.

It seems quite simple...

Digital SLR's are valuable products, in great demand at the moment and there are a lot of people out there who would love to get one cheaply so much that they might run some risks... perfect condition for any scam artist.

There has also been a lot of similar D30 / D60 / 10D and Kodak DCS 14 offers...

Remember the old saying? - If seems to good to be true then it probably is!!

P.S. I wonder whether the father at Canon will appear as helpful if it went wrong as he is to take the money?
