Here's one from an Engagement I shot recently. I realise that it's a little dark, but it was pitch back outside where I took the shot and this was snapped during a break in the rain. AF was just about impossible and in later shots I switched to MF with equally mixed results. I suppose if I can't see them why should the camera. Probably needs a crop still.

I wanted some shots other than those in the function room, hence the move outside. What other things can you do in this situation? PS I only have a single flash.

C & C welcome.

85.00 mm 1/160 s at F 2.80 with ISO 800 with 580EX on camera.

I'm actually a little confused with the coloring with this picture, were you having whitebalance problems? There seems to be enough light on the face as we can see some hot spots.

I think you want to shoot with a slower shutter speed so you can get more even lighting. Try a technique called "dragging the shutter"

Thanks for looking and commenting. It wasn't a WB problem but just me experiementing with some different post processing techniques. This one I used Midnight Sepia on - hence the yellowish tone. The MS was on a separate layer and had the opacity down at about 40% Seems not many here liked this idea.

Midnight Sepia's not something I'd normally try for this type of portrait but as I siad just playing. The couple like it, so I suppose that's all that matters in the end.

The photo's ok, but you missed part of his head. With a speedlight AF beam focus should work perfectly. Why leave the space above their heads when there's nothing interesting there? Better to shoot lower down on them.

Thanks Tim, I was having trouble seeing them also, hence the 1/2 a head missing.
