Hi, this will probably sound totally insane, but I am just watching the brazil v Australia game and i noticed one on the camera men on the sidelines had an odd looking camera..

It looked like a canon body with the rounded hot shoe bump but the canon logo was blacked out and other info too

the lens was grey but looked like a normal black lens with masking tape or some other cover around it, i saw it in 42 minutes 35-40 seconds of the match if anyone taped it,

i was wondering if this may have been a new model disguised, i know they do this with cars but im probably totally mad haha

thanks anyway for listening to my ramble

Too many beers? ;)

I'd imagine if canon were letting anyone test it, it wouldn't be people taking pictures of football games. :)

I'm saying he jsut didn't want to draw attention to himself and he taped out his White lens - maybe!

i have seen many pros do that. they use black marker to mask the canon and the 1d and many of them use silver tape on thier lenses...

I have heard of this, photogs for some of the big agencies black out the logo on their cameras, and disguise things with tape etc - it supposedly makes them less attractive to thieves and muggers.
The game must have been boring as anything...;)

That's an idea. :)

If it's a new sports camera, such a future successor to the 1D IIn, then it will be tested at sporting events. Canon does field-test cameras, and it makes sense to test them in the area in which they will be used.

I'm not sure if this "sighting" represents a new future body, though, as many photographers seem to like to black out the name on their gear for some reason or another.

Interestingly enough, I saw only one Nikon at the sideline of that game!

Canon are rinsing the 5D and 30D at the moment, in my opinion.. Like any company would with the first full frame DSLR. Clever to release the 30D too, as a upgrade for people who want a upgrade but not a Kidney Selling upgrade.
