Here's a few of my favourites from yesterday's wedding. Pretty harsh sunlight, but I think I managed to get some good ones.

Very nice! I was wondering about the first one. :) Then I realized, that must be her father or grandfather. I'm getting too weirded out these days. Beautiful B&G, and your exposures and views are amazing. Did you mainly use the 17-55 IS?

I used a combination of the 17-55 and 70-200 for all my shots.
#1, #4, #6 - 70-200 F2.8 IS

#2, #3, #5 - 17-55 F2.8 IS

I know this is sort of silly, but I snapped this picture of myself at the wedding.

Good? These are great! The composition, the intimacy between the couple... it's all there. My hat's off to you.

These are very nice photographs Toogy - the bride would be proud to show these off in her album.

Now on another note, and not to be critical - but do you wear a suit or at least a coat and tie when you photograph a wedding? - Stu

No. I used to, but I am trying to be different then the rest of the wedding photographers around here. I try and book brides who are looking for something a little different than the traditional wedding photographers.

You obviously have talent, a good sense of composition and timing. These are all important to the successful wedding photographer.... and different is fine too, from the the traditional wedding photographer.

When you say the brides are looking for something different, do you mean they are looking for different photographic style and technique, or photographers who are just different?

I'll be the first too admit that I'm an old school gray haired traditional fart who may not own a tuxedo, but certainly puts on a tie for wedding. We are all professionals who work in this trade. I simply feel we should look the part we play at a very important event. When I look at your work I see hard work and quality shooting, done by a nice young man wearing dockers, a too long gray T-shirt and a checkered shirt that hangs out over his belt, while he is surrounded by a beautiful bride, guests in suits and groomsmen in tuxes. I realize this in no way affects the high quality of your work, but it certainly influences what people think of you as you do this work.

I know I risk some flames here, but please don't take this as a personal attack. I want to see you succeed here and honestly believe you need to play the part properly if you want repeat business. Guests will judge you by your appearance, regardless of your high quality work - and there are those referrals who will rule you out because of that detail unfortunately. I only say this because I have seen it happen. - Stu

Those are really beautiful pictures - they look like something out of a bridal magazine :-) :-)

I hear what you are saying, and don't worry, I don't view this as a personal attack.
I just feel I need something different to distinguish myself from the crowd. I've booked a couple of weddings recently just because of this.

Glad to hear that it's working out for you. I can't argue with success nor bookings ;) . If you find that this is a good formula, then I can respect that and wish you the best. In the meantime, keep up the fine work!

A tie for a wedding? Not where I live, at least not in summer! It's just too hot, the only people in suits are the groom and his guys, the others guys usually wear a shirt though.

Great photos Toogy. Would you mind posting to this thread again (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=147128&page=3) about your experience with the 17-55? I'd love to use the combo you used to this wedding, and keep the other lenses as backups (except for the fast prime at times).

Very cool shots...bang on exposures. Can I ask how you meter and use fill as in 5?

Simon

PS Stuart, tie for a wedding?.....I think photographer atire is reflected in the style of photography. Traditional posed...maybe, modern documentary style....wearing a tie would just be too restrictive! Loose shirt and cargos all the way!

Cheers.

a tie is a great lens cleaning cloth in a pinch :)

I don't do anything fancy, just have the camera in AV mode and the flash set on ETTL with high speed sync on (I sometimes dial down the FEC abit). In AV & TV modes the camera defaults to "fill flash" mode, or tries to expose for the ambient light.
