A few from my first ever engagement session, it is my brother and his soon to be bride.
For the conditions (10:00-11:00ish) I think I did OK but wanted some outside opinion. (They couldn't do it any earlier or any later, sigh...)

My view of engagement photos is that they should show a romantic, casual, close nature of the couple. I'd suggest showing more physical contact between the couple - holding hands, hugging, leaning against each other, etc. If you go into Google and search for "engagement photos" you'll probably find some examples. I agree with you about the lighting; I ALWAYS schedule these for sunset, if possible.

Not bad. You would learn a lot reading this book (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1584281340/002-3047575-5896047?v=glance&n=283155).

I'm just not seeing very good chemistry or good expressions. #'s 5 and 7 are as close as it gets for me. Do you have time for a reshoot before they print their invites? They just looks kinda uncomfortable, and like they don't know what to do. Also watch for things growing out of their heads.

Maybe a little fill flash would have helped these "pop". They do look a little stiff, but sometimes that is how people are. I think you did a nice job, not perfect but we learn from our errors.

well you did well with the light I think, but your bro looks pretty uncomfortable. But I dont think that's your fault. good luck in the future :)

IMO and experience, the key to these type of sessions is to engender an atmoshphere of fun...I am not sure there is any pat formula for that.
