The first football game of the season was last night...and the local team completely destroyed the competition. They were the national champs last year and it looks like they're off to another great start!

Nice shots, I like the second one.

Man, summer football, in pads... I hope it's cooler there than it is here!

Gonna have to second that. If they were playing in my weather there'd easily be a few heat casualties . Like the shots though!

The games start later in the day, 6:30PM, and we usually don't have any weather that could be called 'hot'. It was one of our nicer days and it was actually chilly at about half time :)

Hey Alex, thanks. I used a 70-200 for these and although it's not long enough for most of the action happening on the field, it worked for some stuff. Try to get as close as you can to the field (the ref will tell you when you're too close :) ). If your doing an evening game your ISO will shoot up pretty fast. I was at ISO 200 for about half the game and then all of a sudden ISO 1600.

I lost a lot of shots because I let the shutter get too slow, so shoot manual if the light permits.

Have fun!!!

Superb! These are definately pro quality. I initially thought you were using the 300/2.8.
May I ask what AF settings you use on your 1D? Expanded AF? AF Sensitivity? Single Point AF or 45 Point?
Thanks and keep up the good work.

Thanks Drisley. I was using the default AF sensitivity, center point, expanded to 7 points. I WISH I had the 300 f/2.8!! What a treat that would be.
