I like the effect - your choice of the technique lends well to the subject matter; nice how the vertical "blocks" seem to align themselves to the direction of the fur. - Stu

I was using a standalone digital painting program called
Gertudis Pro http://www.gertrudisgraphics.com/gpro.php
(Gertrudis Pro is an stand alone software that transforms digital
photos into artistic paintings. It includes a variety of styles
such as watercolor, crayon or oil painting. Also it gives the
option of rendering the output at any resolution without loss of
quality or pixelation)
It give you a couple of presets - water color, van gough, oil, custom, etc. There is a new version 2.5 but I've only used the 2.2.
