I was just reading about the new sima 12-24, anybody tested it or seen it?

I couldn't find any reviews on it either. Guess it's too new. Reading the specs, it's nothing like Nikon 12-24 which is designed exclusively for use with digital SLRs. The Sigma also has many more lens elements including 4 SLD elements. I'm thinking this is going to be an expensive lens. I would love to be wrong though.

Sigma's website describes their DG lenses

"The DG designation applied to certain newer Sigma lenses (mostly wideangle and wide zoom type lenses) indicates that the lens is especially suited for use with digital SLR cameras. The DG lenses feature improved (more even) light distribution from image center to edge, especially at maximum aperture, compared to conventional fast wideangle lenses. This is important in digital photography, but is also useful in 35mm photography"

I just came across this lens today as well,. (I was on Sigma's site looking for drop in filters for my new 500mm prime :D )

I am VERY interested to see how this turns out. Sounds like they are thinking along the lines of the Nikon 12-24,.. but as Chris points out,. I think this one will work with any camera!!!

A few months before Nikon made theres I posted the Idea that a company like Sigma should make a lens like this fast,. with multiple mounts for the industries DSLRS (Nikon/Fuji, Canon, and now Pentax) a none OEM could corner the market of Wide angles for DSLRs.....

I hope it doesn't cost too much,. I assume it won't be tooooo bad,. as it isn't excatly the fastest lens around :)

I think someone mentions that it will only be a 12-24 on a 35mm camera. On a 1.6 crop digital it works out to less of course...But it's still a good thing.!!

Oh well,. to each his or her own. Many of us that are posting in this thread are actually interested in the lens,. and some of us own and use and value some of the Sigma lenses.

I use 2 Sigmas, the 28-80 and 70-300. I've never had any problems. The image quality isn't superb, but these aren't the EX series and were very low priced ($300 for both).

BTW - anyone know what 820,93 EUR converts to?

Looks like around $966.
The conversion rate when I checked was 1.00 EUR =1.17695 USD

Uniquephoto.com has the listing on their site for $650. They also list the 80-400 OS, but we all know it's not out yet. Maybe they are taking preorders for it somewheres?

Here is what I got from Jason Etzel of Unique Photo:

Hello Richard ,

We can take orders on those items, all pre-order of course, nothing in stock
on those items at this time but we should be getting them shortly. Is there
anything else I could possibly assist you with?

Thanks for the passing of the information Richard. The prices on the Sigma will in all likelyhood remain the same once the lenses are available. Anything you ever need a price quote on or availability please feel free to
drop a line.

Not really, my 105ex macro needed re-chipping for the 10D, but the service was free & quite fast.
