since you wanted an actual critique, here goes
both are under exposed. you might have better luck out on the water with a polarizing filter.
the 2nd's horizon is off centered. its gotta be straight or delibretly off center
1st pic has good elements, subect has a nice diagnoal line, with other elements at different areas of focus. between under exposure and small pic etc it doesn't really tell a story. its something that is unusual to see and I'm curious what that thing is, but it makes it hard to understand
2nd pic is dead centered, might look up the rule of thirds to help with composition

I was talking about the title he gave the post, not your critique Corey, (which is dead on).

Thanks for the replies, thats really helpfull.
Exactly what I wanted, but yes very demanding:) lol.
I will try croping and changing the levels of the picture to improve it.
BTW, is this forum just for canon, sorry for intruding with my new Nikon camera if so;) This forums looks very helpful so expect to see more of me!

The 1st pic is of a lifeboat being towed out onto the lagoon on a strange ampibious tractor. I took the picture with the subject too near to the right border so I had to crop the left away to even it out.
Do you think a 1 third sky, two third water proportion would have been better on the second pic, or with the boat at the top third margin?

Do you think this is better for the second pic?

I increased the brightness and croped it in pictureproject.
