Challenge #72 - Junk Drawer
No matter who you are, everyone has that junk drawer that catches the miscellanea - the rubber bands, paperclips, coupons, marbles, shoe laces, etc. Not looking for a contrived still-life of banal objects. Make an interesting image of the chaos.

Wow - this challenge turned out to be more challenging than I thought.
Anyone can take a snapshot of a picturesque sunset, a flower or a bird.
The objective of this task was to get you to think creatively, jump inside your head
and give credit to those mundane items you use in daily life that have become invisible.
Marie: Congratulations - I've declared you the winner. You had a one in four chance - so good job. Nice symmetry not only in placement but in colour as well. Interesting collection too.
Alans220: The beer can adds a nice touch. Perspective could have been higher so that you could actually look into each drawer from a birdseye view.
rpolitsr: I applaud your healthy appetite for juice. Unfortunately the foreground is out of focus and that's one of the few golden rules of photography I have to stand by.
Terrywindowpic: #4 for having four shots - should have decided on one and gone for it. Impressive collection of tools though.
Thanks to the participants. Marie, I challenge you to come up with a challenge that has fewer than 4 entries.
Get to work.

Congratulations, marie, alans220 and Terrywoodenpic.
Certainly, four entries are too few for a potentially interesting subject.
It is not a host fault, of course. Sometimes it happens.
I think it was a difficult to implement task (a real challenge, I mean) and that may be the main reason for the low count of entries.
At least marie, alans220 and probably Terrywoodenpic (no exif to confirm) shot fresh pictures for the challenge.
I intended to shot the ‘chaos’ and it proved to be difficult to shot a picture that is not staged so I went to the archive.
IMG_0001.jpg was my first digital photo shot with my first digital camera. That is the reason to keep it in my digital archive.
I received My Pro1 while I was in one of the frequent attempts to maintain my “junk drawers” as far from chaos as possible. I never succeed; I just get a table full of disordered things that will be returned to the drawers after an almost impossible classification.
You may guess that as soon as the camera arrived I pushed half of the objects to a table’s corner and opened the canon boxes immediately.
I got one hour to read the manual while the battery was in the charger and then I shot the Pro1’s first image. The subject was the spool of braided cord that I use in kites construction because it has the right texture to test the autofocus.
The spool, as you see, was surrounded by a “natural” chaos that seemed a good subject for this contest.
I never realized that the foreground was the big out-of-focus box of my just arrived Canon 420EX flash. It was not considered as part of the untidy table.
Thank you Terry for opening the doors that were closed in your winning submission (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showpost.php?p=1272694&postcount=5) to the ‘Under construction’ challenge. :)

thank you very much for judging and the kind words D art
and for the very interesting challenge
:)
it was a difficult one to get down to, meaning that very literally
Very Best Congratulations to all of you who entered
I loved seeing the photographs of all the tools and other items which we really cannot do without, yet they are in the background so much just waiting for our hands to pick them up. they can give so much happiness and enjoyment
my dad (if he were alive) would have loved to see these shots showing the tools and other stuff from you all Alans, Rpolitsr and Terry
I often wish I had shots of him in his workshop or when he stopped to play a tune on the violin or the mandoline, a thing he often done when I was standing beside him as a very young child watching his hands while he worked.
we must have chatted a lot but he was a very quiet man .
I mostly remember his presence and his work and his music .
he loved being able to 'mend' things.
with many thanks
and am really stuck now:eek:
regards the next
hold on
and thanks

yeah we've been discussing it, might be another weiner dog or perhaps a pembroke corgi. for now, we're thinking about setting up a webcam so we can keep an eye on chloe. but then again, we tried to keep her in the kitchen compared to her big crate.. but she so afraid of being in open space that she is much calmer in her big crate. but wify thinks it's better for chloe to be able to run around then to be stuck in a crate, whereas I think the reason why chole like her crate more is because it's safer for her.

You are getting very royal tastes.
The Queen has corgies and Dachs and a few corgi-dachs.
Can you not keep her in the crate with the door open, so she has a choice.
If you had a corgi as well they would look after each other... no problem.
make sure the corgi is younger or it will be the boss. They are real tough little dogs We had pembrokes when I was a boy. They used to help herd our Cows.

Webcam for chloe? :) Ok, chloe is an instant superstar now lol. That's a high maintenance dog Rui. I wonder how it would be like if you have a son/daughter in the future:D

terry.. we tried leaving the crate door open.. when we came home... chloe was a mess. chloe stayed in the crate and didn't look like she came out at all...and was shaking and she nearly lost her voice just crying. it broke our hearts.
as for corgi.. yes.. that's my wife's favorite. as a matter of fact, our close friend has a corgi and a lab. when we go out and let them run around loose leash at a park.. just as we were worried that chloe might run off somewhere.. was just tell Nani (the pem.corgi) to go find chloe.. and what do you know.. chloe's back. Nani is 6 months younger than chloe.. and they are a great match.. both females.
Sophia.. i know i know.. i'm really worried about having kids too cuz God only knows how spoiled they might end up being.. lol :) but since my wife and i will be married 2 year this Nov, her biological clock hasn't started ticking yet i suppose. so that gives me some time to save up for my 30D... no i mean.. for my future kids.. hahaha :)

this is an old photo that I just found. It was taken in my friends house just after he moved in to it, in UK. Next time I visit, I think the hallway will still look like this :)

ha ha ha
looks so funny
the way the lamp is between the legs of the drawers
like as though one leg is stopping the lamp from escaping and holding the hall door shut
its amazing how much detail in life is lost (to our vision) unless captured in a photo like you did
and no doubt you will be a welcome guest after your friend sees this picture
but its a clean mess

I'm gonna make a large print, frame it, and stick it on his hallway wall:
If the hallway looks the same now (up-ended desk, blue lamp, shoes balancing of the edges like 'lemmings' etc) the photo will mirror the 'real scene', and perhaps look rather disturbing :)
If the hallway looks different (replaced by sleek IKEA furnature, and suspiciously tidy) it will be a perfect reminder of 'how things were' :)
(quote)"its amazing how much detail in life is lost (to our vision) unless captured in a photo like you did"(end-quote)
yep, tell me about it. Maybe that explains why my hard drives continuously get filled up by these 'every day' mundane snapshots, but which could be interesting to look back on in 20 > 30 years time.
....it was a rather clean mess also, but with a slightly un-easy "about to topple" feel to it.
