Hi all, can someone point me to a website or something showing movie demo clips taken at 320x240 resolution by an A70 or A80?
The reason I ask is that I've been waiting quite a while for the A80 (twisting screen etc.) to come out but on closer reading, I realised that the movie option only records at a max of 320x240 as opposed to the A70's 640x480 (why the hell did Canon go and do that??).
I was dead impressed with the 640x480 from the A70 but if I find the lower res acceptable, then I'd go with the A80.
Thanks!

yeah his site is awesome. Goto http://www.steves-digicams.com - find the camera you want, and then look at the samples. There will be video and images, although I think the video samples are in MJPEG format, so you will need Zoombrowser to play them, or the free MJPEG codec I linked to in the other topic.

Cheers for the replies, I found a 320x240 clip taken with the A60, I presume this is exactly the same quality as the A70 right?
It's not that bad really, just gotta decide now whether the twisting screen, 4Mp, and the other tweaks (i.e A80)whilst sacrificing the 640x480 movie clip mode is worth an extra £50......probably not really but the twisting screen does seem pretty useful.....hmmmm.
Thanks!

Mabey not the same, but pretty close.
Its also 4mp. I love the 640 res though, but i use video as much as picture, some people never use the vid so it wouldn't make a difference.
I have one from the A70 somewhere on the net. If u want it i can find it. The revies at steves has a A70 one fore sure, i have it somewhere. And should be a new one for the A80 aswell.

Hi, I've seen the 640x480 clip on steves digicams (the clip of the cars and the road) and it is quality!
If you've found/got a 320x240 clip taken with the A70 or A80, that'd be great, but if not, don't worry!
Cheers!

I never actually saw one taken on 320 to tell you the truth, everyone was to concerned with the jump to 640. If you found A60 vids, they would be the 320 that your after.

IMHO Movie mode will be useful when length is only limited by card size, you can zoom during recording, it will re-focus/re-expose during recording. It would also be nice if bright lights didn't generate vertical streaks and finally, stereo sound would be good as well. As for 640*480 mode - what use is 30 seconds? 3 minutes is barely enough!!! Having said that - 320 mode at 3 minutes certainly has its uses.

A 30 second clip is fine I think as when I've used a standard camcorder, clips are often of a similar length (sometime more, sometimes less). I've never taken a clip of more than a couple of mins. You can always edit a number of clips together to get a clip of several mins at 640x480 on your PC. But as with everything, it's down to personal preference.

I've used a Sony Digital Camera that allows you to zoom in and out whilst taking clips. don't know the model though. It was something like the Cybershot DSC F717 (not that model) but an older similar looking model.
The thing was that when zooming in and out, the noise of the motor would be picked up by the mic.....which was annoying!

Seems weird if an old model does it, but all the new models in other cameras still can't.

Maybe because of the noise, as Highway wrote, but it is quite annoying to not be able to go from inside out in the sun, because of severe overexposure...

I've looked at one video from the kodak 4330. I was deciding whether to get that or the A70. I made the right choice. But what i did find is that when i looked at the movie, it might of re-exposed. It was a few months ago and before i even new what exposure was, but i do rememeber that it did change in the background. I'm talking 100's of mtrs away, i don't know whether it was the bad quality of the video or the exposure.
I think they leave it out because it might chew the frame rate, since there only shot clips and not movies they left it out.
I do have one good video, it was at sunset, and it was correnty exposed because we were driving into the sun and the camera was facing back at the rider. Then we put him in a whip and we went though a pretty much white 'nuke' screen, then back out to normal exposure.
But as ive heard so many times on this forum, its a still cam not a vid cam.

well if you're in a sunset or something, then allow the camera to adjust the exposure before you start shooting the movie. Then if you walk into a house, stop the movie, and allow the camera to re-adjust, then start shooting.
You're right, its not a video camera, and exposure should be the least of your worries since they're only like 30 sec clips and about half the frame rate of actual video.

We couldn't start and stop the film because it was in the middle of a whip.
Other circumstances yes.
I think there designed to be shot in the same location with just the subject moving rather than the whole camera man/lady moving aswell.
