Following UK Terry's suggestion, the best I've seen so far is from Amazon.co.uk

GBP 139.99 with free delivery

Can anyone beat that?

The European price still seems to be higher than the US price.
I tried to order Photoshop CS at Amazon.com today for $169,99 which is less than € 150.... which is about € 75 Euro cheaper than the amazon.co.uk price..
Unfortunately the us store can-not or may-not ship to Europe....

What I did buy was a unopened version of Photoshop 4. I *hope* I can use this to upgrade from...not sure however...will this work???

Armand

I see that CS can be bought under a student's licence too for a much lower price, but as the whole package. I haven't been able to figure out if the upgrade can be purchased this way. (I'm a mature Open University student - this qualifies).
Mature being used loosely here.....8-))

i believe you can upgrade from any version, all the upgrade needs is a valid registration number.
i will be upgrading from 5.5.

roger seems to have sourced the cheapest in the UK so far, i have not seen any cheaper.

Anybody know if the upgrade is a full install, i.e. doesn't require a previous version to be installed ?

I ask as my PC is getting close to being trashed and rebuilt from scratch and moving to XP at the same time. Don't really want to have to install 7 just so I can install 8 (oops), CS.

Cheers

Ian,

I am not 100% certain about this, but I think you can install PS CS provide you have an original CD from an earlier version that can be checked during installation.

OTOH, if you have a lot of plug-ins for PS7, you might still want some that won't work with PS CS.

Yes, I have the original PS7 CD that I can put in for checking during installation, so hopefully I can do it that way.

PS7 was my first version of PS and I don't have many plugins. Is it normal for plugins to stop working after a new version of PS comes out or are they generally compatible ?

Cheers

Ian

My experience going from 6 to 7 was mixed: some worked and some didn't. My guess is that there could be more problems upgrading to CS because of the changes in 16-bit support.

I intend to install CS separately and work my way through the plug-ins one at a time.

I've ordered it from Amazon (UK) so expecting it by next weekend. Can't wait!
I also checked prices and after VAT and postage, etc, Adobe themselves are dearer than Amazon. (You can get free postage on Amazon).

Hmm.... a horrible thought just struck me....What if the Post Office strike is still going on...8-(

If you are able to get PS 4 through 7 on a CD then Yes you can use the Upgrade program. Here is what you do.

First: Have the old Photoshop disk handy. The second most important thing to have is the registration number. Make sure this is not a "Borrowed Number" or pirate copy. Adobe is starting to crack down.

Put the PScs disk in and when it starts to look for the previous installed version of Photoshop a window should pop up with a directory window. Open your CD deck (if you have two use the second one, if not go ahead and remove the PScs disk and put the other Photoshop disk in) Direct the program to this drive and it will see the disk. Click OK and put the Upgrade disk back in to finish the install. It may ask for the old registration number at the same time.

With PS 7 the registration number did change from the older versions so keep this in mind. Also be sure to write down both the old number and new number somewhere (I have a card index on my desk with all this information) in case something comes up with the install or operations. This is also handy if your computer crashes and you have to do a clean install again.

There are 2 seperate issues here:

1) PS CS will not run on some older OSs, such as Mac OS9. Plugins that require PS to be running under such an OS will not work, its an OS issue rather than a PS issue.

2) Some Adobe Plugins are PS version specific, i.e. they are not forward or backward compatible and should only be installed in the plugins folder for their version. (Sorry, didn't keep a record of which ones). Adobe's advice re- upgrading and plugins is to reinstall 3rd party plugins into the new version's plugins folder, NOT to point PS at the old version's plugin folder.

Got my copy today from Amazon.

it does say however it will only upgrade from 5.0 onwards....if you have a previous version to 5.0 you need to phone Adobe.

Adobe now list the upgrade at £125 on their euro site (access via http://www.adobe.co.uk/ ). But it doesn't say (as far as I can see) what the delivery cost is.

Cheers

It's also exclusive of VAT, which is charged at the Irish rate of 21%. Works out at GBP 151.25. But you can download it, if you can't wait and have broadband.

Terry,

No - not yet anyway. :) I have done a piece on how to batch with CRII, but that doesn't go into settings for conversion:
