Hi,

Need some feedback from users with the above setup. Got this lens 2nd hand a week ago. After using for a couple of days, the aperture blades got stuck. Sent it in for servicing and upon collecting, the cam cannot power up. The cam will only display the batt level and thats abt it. I demanded an explanation from the technician and he can only suggest that the body may be faulty, and asked me to send it to canon for a check. But the thing is when he brought a new 24-70 EX f/2.8 from the store to try on my D30, it works flawlessly (hey wats new? all my other canon, sigma and tamron lenses work too)! Still he claimed that he had done his part to fix and lens (replacing the "contact switch FPC") and i should have the D30 inspected. The only canon body he has in the center was a very old film body, which works when the lens was mounted.

Anyone experienced similar problem with D30 and 15-30EX? Is there this remote possiblility of my body not being able to work with THIS lens ONLY?

Would appreciate if anyone can share his/her experience or opinions. Thanks in advance!

regards

I happen to have the exact setup you're talking about. I purchased the Sigma 15-30 for my D30 about three weeks ago. I've taken around 500 pictures with it, and haven't had any problems at all. Sorry to hear about the problems, but the lens I have works great with the D30. If something comes up I'll post it here. When you find out what's going on let us know, I'm curious now.

Hi scollins,

Thanks for your feedback! May I ask if you bought the lens new just 3 weeks ago? Which country did you purchase it from?

Thanks again!

No problem, hope it helps. I bought my lens from B&H a few weeks ago. B&H doesn't specify if it's USA or Import. I'm not sure if that applies to Sigma lenses, although I could be very wrong. I know that it's a big issue with Canon lenses. Here's some info about the lens:

Zoom Super Wide Angle 15-30mm f/3.5-4.5 EX Aspherical DG DF Autofocus Lens for Canon EOS

Mfr Catalog # 512101 • B&H Catalog # SI153035CAF

I had problems with the sigma lense and the D30...so I traded it in on a Canon 16-35...problem solved. The lense works fine with the 1D as well.

Hi Phil,

Could you describe more about the issue you were having with the 15-30mm on the D30? Thanks!

Yes yes, I sent it to Sigma. The lens is still covered under warranty.

The main problems with the Sigma 15-30 and the D30 were related to focus, it was always slow and many times did not focus at all. I tried the lense on several Canon film bodies and it worked better but not well on the D60 or D30. I have not had any problems with Canon lenses.
