View Full Version : Think Canon Will Have Fall Double/Tripple Rebates Again?

Last year Canon ended the year with a fantastic double and triple rebate offer. Do they do that regularly? Are they going to do it again? It was so disorganized, but I think I would take advantage of it again.

What do you think?

I think the rebate is still going on with 22 days left.
From what I remember, I think they have it twice a year after the Feb and Aug release of new products.

The fall rebates were so much, people here in the forum got hundreds back. I got $225 back and I bought only 2 things. It's much better than the one still going on. I am only getting $60 back. I am hoping they give an insane incentive to buy the 5D and come out with something new. Wow. Can you imagine that?

Canon has had a 'holiday season' (must be PC, now) rebate each of the last several years. With new DSLR competition this year from Sony and Panasonic, I would think this year will be one of the best rebates - but I could be wrong. . .

The problem with Canon, it sells well no matter what. It's just when they want to move their inventory, I think. I wondered about the competition as well, but you know, I don't know very many people who spend a few thousand on a certain line of nice gear and switch mid-purchase. Thank heavens.

I am hoping for another rebate special. I need a good landscape lens, but won't have a need for it until next year. So, a Fall rebate would be ideal.

Another round of triple rebates would be just awful for me! The only things on my Canon wishlist are the 70-200 IS, 300 f2.8 IS, and 5D.

That means I'll have to sell my car just to afford all the additional "savings".:(

I'm just terribly afraid that my 30D will transform into a 1DMkIIN when I least expect it, and I'm expecting it the least this fall!

If this does happen, it will happen right after I and a group of others upgrade.

Murphy told me so.

Look for it in October! I certainly am.

I hope so. My wish list is getting awfully long. Trouble is I'll have even less money as the holidays approach. Maybe my kids will do without presents this year to help mom out...

That's an excellent idea, cancel Christmas! Why didn't I think of that?:)

Before joining the forum, I would have never even considered buying anything more than what I had last Oct. But the constant purchases among members made me think, "Hey, people are buying equipment and not just because they have to." :)

How 'bout that? Some people have fun! :p

Ronald, did you take advantage of the rebates last year?

Ronald S. Jr.

Nope. Didn't have anything to buy then. :-(

Bad news is, I really don't have anything to buy this year either! The only things left that I want are waaaay more than I'll have by then. The only thing I might buy (that wouldn't be affected by rebates, I'm sure) will be the 1DMkII/N. Other than that, I don't see much in the way of "big stuff" headed my way. Can't think of any lenses that aren't big and white that I want. I've got 'em all.

I think Suzie is looking for a triple rebate 5D at Costco!

SuzyView
22nd of June 2006 (Thu), 20:53
There you go! Only bad thing about buying from Costco is that they charge for delivery and tax. If you order from B&H, they don't charge for tax. So, when you buy something that is very expensive, over $1000, the tax is significant.

Darn that sales tax. I know that when I was going back and forth between the 70-200 f4 and the 70-300 IS I had decided that if it was the 70-300 it was coming from Costco, I was willing to eat the %8.25 sales tax in order to be able to keep taking it back if it had portrait issues. But the 70-200 won out and got it at B&H with no tax. You still thinking of returning the 20D?

Ronald S. Jr.

Suzy, didn't you say you could return your 20D and get a 30D for about the same price? So uh...how come you haven't done that yet?

SuzyView
22nd of June 2006 (Thu), 21:26
Well, first of all, Costco hasn't had a good supply of 30D's yet. Every time I try to see if any are available, they don't have any. I can't return my 20D and wait until who knows when for the 30D's to be available. And, of course, I have gotten pretty attached to my 20D. I think I may just keep it and go straight to the 5D. My son is getting the 10D this summer, so I will only have 1 dslr to work with. I still may change my mind. I paid about $200 more for my 20D at Costco than if I bought it at B&H, but I got the peace of mind that if anything terrible were to happen, I can just return it for the full price I paid. That's why I think it's worth the extra cost.

Suzy, maybe you should try a 30D to see if it wows you enough to want it. What'd the cost difference be, anyway? If there's no difference in price (close to none anyway), you should hop to the 30D. If you ever do decide to sell it, you're gonna lose at least a few hundred bucks on the 20D, as they're hardly hitting 800 these days used. 30D's, however, are selling in the 1200's. I think you should get that 70-200 first. Your shots are begging for it..desperately. Then, if you find you need to sell your other body (20/30D) to get the 5D, you'll be 400 ahead instead of 400 behind (as an example). Ya get me? The upgrades on the 30D will be worth the minute difference in price. Big screen, spot metering, improved focus accuracy, picture styles, 1/3 stop ISO increments, ISO in the viewfinder, bigger brighter viewfinder, improved shutter, quieter shutter, 3fps option, better feeling body, better fit with the grip, blah blah...I could go on. There's no negative here, Suzy.

At this point my issue with the things on the rebate list is that there is hardly anything left for me to get. . .:o

I couldn't pass up that $300 rebate on the 5D. Mine will be here Monday.

Wow! Congrats, Maureen!

Man... I think I need a new computer and car before I go that route... :-(

That's what convinced Jon to get one. He was toying with the idea, but the rebate with the code was too much. He gave in and doesn't regret it one bit. I am not earning any money this summer so I can't buy anything big until the fall, but if the rebates are back, I'm going for it! It seems every time I think I have everything I need, I find out there's something out there that can really be useful. I guess we're all that way, well, maybe except Dante and Belmondo. :)
