These images for all of you who are AMA Superbike series fans. These images were taken with a Mark ll and 400mm 2.8L + 1.4 TC.This track is definitly a big glass track and there are only two places where you can use smaller glass. But if you are creative you can get great images. The key to getting around this very big facility is to bring a dirtbike or scooter with you. The image of Jake was shot during early morning warmup for the Superbike race and the image of E Boz was taken during 600 Supersport qualifying. This track was a great place to photograph racing with great sightlines. I cannot wait to go back next year it should be an even better place by then. Well it is off to Nascar at Infineon this coming weekend for me.

Thanks for sharing these. Looks like you had to do some cropping to fill the frame? From some of the other posts I've seen it seems like you need at least 600 (or even more) to get tight shots at this track.

Nice shots. What lens were you using DW? I'm just curious as there seems to be some sort of purple halo around the front wheel on the first shot.

These were shot with the 400mm 2.8L and 1.4 TC lens setup. Also in some instances I used the patented lens softener the 2.0 TC.These are all Canon EOS pieces.I also used the Canon 1D Mark ll.

Perhaps I should try reading your posts instead of just looking at the images!

Here is a panning shot of Ben Spies that was shot at 320th of a sec.You do not need to photograph bikes any higher than 320th of a sec. unles they are coming at you, than and only then you can run a higher shutter speed.I have shot motorcycle racing as low as 60th of a sec. and these images are generally hit or miss.Under no circumstances should you shoot at 2000th of a sec. mainly because it looks as if you do not know what you are doing.

Great shot of Spies...I love AMA racing...and European Superbikes...and MotoGP and......You get the point? :D
I shoot cars at Mid-Ohio and I am hoping to shoot the bikes there in a month or so. Unfortunately the magazines I am shooting for do not cover bikes, so I am out beating down the doors as we speak....awesome images....

Mike,
Do you have any shots that show more of the track and show where you actually are? These are pretty tight and could be at virtually any track, I'd like to see a little bit of the track and surroundings to really get a feel for where you are.
I'll be out there next month for the ALMS and would like to see more from the facility to get an idea of what I have in store for me when I get there.
Thanks.
