I am waiting to get a new SD100, and am wondering if I load the Canon software that comes with, will my older Canon G2 be able to download with the same software?Or is there some model specificity to the software?

Your G2 will work on the new software, but your new SD10 won't work on the older version. Have you heard about the new version of ZB that comes with the new cameras? It's version 4.5. It's supposed to allow you to burn CDs from within ZoomBrowser (only on WinXP, since XP has it's own CD burning software as part of the OS). PhotoRecord, the printing application of ZB, changed a lot too. It looks a lot like the ZB4 user interface. Canon says the software should be available for purchase by November 1st.

Thanks. Do you know if I have to uninstall the old version of Zoombrowser first, or can I just install the new one over it? (It's ver 4.1 versus version 3.1). Thanks.

I can't get the "Camera and Memory Card" section of Zoombrowser to work under XP.
I miss the way it automatically saves photos into dated folders.
Is there a fix or is there an alternative downloader that does this?

I heard back from Canon that I can load the new version over the old. In terms of an alternate, everyone on this board has been raving about breezebrowser (at breezebrowser.com). I am still stubborn and play with zoombrowser.

Mike, I'm not sure what you mean getting the Camera and Memory Card to work. Do you mean you can't download the photos (from camera to computer)? The way I do it is turn on the camera after it is connected, and then a window pops up asking what program I want to use and I highlight Zoombrowser. I haven't tried opening Zoombrowser BEFORE I hook up the camera. I did just try a test with the new Zoombrowser 4.1 I loaded. I was able to download a photo from my new SD100, and then also was successful with my old G2, both having separate UBS connections, but using Win XP.

I've been using Zoombrowser 3.1, which came with my G2. However I also have an Ixus 400 (S400) and didn't load the software that came with it. I normally download from a card reader, not a camera. I now find with the Ixus 400 files, that any picture with a vertically-oriented thumbnail (i.e. one that the camera has auto-rotated) takes considerably longer to download (30 seconds vs. 5). Is this a feature of auto-rotated images in general, and would it remain or be corrected if I load a newer version of ZB?
BTW for those interested in Breezebrowser, it is far preferable for viewing, editing, RAW conversion etc, and well worth the download cost. The free version of the Breeze downloader is very basic, however, and I don't wish to pay for the shareware version as I already have the Canon software which does the job.
