Hi,
I may be asking very stupid question her but, hey, I am a photographer not a php expert, and English to boot.
I have installed a new gallery and have had a problem with the fix, but have posted a question elsewhere for that.
1/ for every new album I create I assume I must create the folder on the server, including all the thumb and micro thumb folders, or does your script create these automatically?
2/ Does the script automatically resize my photos if so how, or must I upload them the size I need, as thumbs etc.
Do I also assume that a member of my site can not create their own album.
None of the above are in the form of a complaint because the whole system looks great, once I get it going.
Many thanks

EE 1.5 does paths automatically, using ftp. So, first you need to set up and test ftp server(s) in EE. Then, when that works and you have found out your ftp root folder* (and gallery root folder) set up paths. When paths are set up and you're ready to upload (resize works, too) EE will create the paths (if needed) on upload command and then ftp resized photos to each size path selected in upload page.
I'd advice to set up ONE thumbs and ONE microthumbs folder and use those for ALL exhibitions until you find a need to do otherwise. EE will allow you to set up extremely complex path systems but by no means that is not needed - start simple.
*easiest way to find your fpt root folder and EE gallery root folder is to use any ftp program to browse there and give PWD command (= Print Working Directory).
Do I also assume that a member of my site can not create their own album.
Correct. EE is not (yet) a multiadmin gallery system. I have plans to make it one, perhaps with version 1.6 or so. All wishes in that area are welcome.

OK now I am confused. I have downloaded and installed EE V1.22, you are now referring to V1.5.
There is no FTP facility on 1.22.
I have seen all sorts of fixes for V1.5. So what have I done wrong? I thought I downloaded the latest version, but it would appear not. So are we talking at cross purposes here, or have I confused you as well as me?
Thanks

Oh, ok sorry. Now I see.
I realize EE web page still presents 1.22 and coming from there to here will confuse people.
--------------
Fix packs are for specific EE 1.5 beta versions only. Applying them to any other version will produce errors.
--------------
Up-to-date info is:
After EE 1.22 there has been 1.3 Release Candidate version (see http://photography-on-the.net/gallery/whatsnew_130.html ). Update from 1.22 to 1.3 is explained at http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5552
After 1.3RC I have released version 1.5 (see http://photography-on-the.net/ee/whatsnew_1_5.html ) , which is now in beta 3 (with couple of fix packs). 1.5 developement is fast and furious, and I release fixes and new features almost daily as "Fix Packs". 1.5 beta 3 is _very_ usable and it's not long that it'll be a "release version".
To get 1.22 to 1.5 beta 3 is still a bit complicated, so I'd like to suggest waiting day or two so that I have time to code one. I will also try my best to get full 1.5 beta 3 (with recent fix packs included) installer for this weekend - with that I can update the EE web page to much more current stage.
If you are REALLY adventurous, you can of course update 1.22 to 1.3RC, and then read http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=17781 to update 1.3 to 1.5 beta 2. To go from beta 2 to beta 3 means installing about 10 fix packs (see board headers). For beta 1.5 beta 1 users there is updater to beta 3 in http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=18150.
Any clearer? :)

Having scouted through your forum I have discovered that I need ImageMagick installed on my server. Now this is getting scary.
I do have a download of ImageMagick but have no idea how to install it onto the server. It is an enormous file and although I have had a look at the install on unix file, I have to admit I can not make much sense of it.
I really want to make this work but I am beginning to feel like a complete dummy (doesn't require an answer).
Can anyone offer any help please?

Do you have Windows or UNIX server? Is it hosted by someone else or are you the sysadmin?

A suggestion prompted by this thread but also my own experience trying to keep up with all of the latest updates/fixes etc.
Is is possible for you to set-up a "static page" with all of the updates, fixes, and instructions rather than them being posted in the forums - since in the forums thay all get mixed up and out of sequence. It getting to the point where it would be quite a job for someone to build right the way from 1.22 to 1.5 fix 4 as they would have to pour through the forum and multiple topics in order to get the correct files and sequence. However a sequential list of all of the steps with links to the downloads would be useful.
If it were easier I think you would get more people trying out the newer versions, have less questions like this thread and generally make it easier for both yourself and the users.
Just an idea...

My web sites are hosted on a Unix server by a hosting Co. I am not the sysadmin.

I have been in contact with my host to ask if they will install ImageMagick, awaiting their reply.
I have also been in contact with two other hosts, offering poss a better deal, and both said they would install it if I wanted it.

Hi again,
My host will not install ImageMagick! Obviously php is installed and GD is also enabled and available.
So will EE work with GD instead please?
Many thanks

As far as I can tell, GD will work just fine with EE. Quality of thumbnails is less. Choose GD2 if you have it (GD1 generates very low-quality thumbnails).

Unfortunately I am stuck with whatever they have. When I checked the php info it states 1.6 (or higher). So as they have the most recent version of php installed I must assume they also have the most recent version of GD....but who knows.
I am sure you will tell me to contact my hosting Co, I have already done this and not received particularly intelligent help....I will say no more.
Thanks for your reply tho.
