As I said in Claires thread about midsummer I also went out to photograph a bonfire in Copenhagen. There are a lot of bonfires around the country and just with 1 hour from my home there were at least 5 or 6 and I choose to go to a boring one....

Oh well here are a few photos.

First one was taken earlier today from my balcony. Yesterday was also a big graduation day in Denmark so students go on a day/night long celebration. They hire a truck like this or horse carriges and visit every students home and get something (beer usually) to drink until they arrive at the final destination where they party all night long to sunrise.

Safety is a big issue with this and until thursday I have never heard of anybody getting hurt during these "parades" through town. Thursday unfortunately a young student was killed in an accident. Not because the student fell of the truck but the student was hit by a car when she was crossing a street (not one of these students).

This is later when I went to the bonfire. The bonfire is going to be on a boat in the harbour. I thought the boat would have been longer out in the harbour but apparently the organisers decided not to do that. In any case I decided to goto the opposite site (where this photo is taken from). Because on the other side I would not get any people on. I had not planned that so I only had my 70-200 and extender with me. Next Year I will choose a different bonfire where I am closer and can use my 16-35 lens instead.

While waiting for the bonfire to start I decided I would practice a little panning on the speedbots in the harbour. Man it is difficult to pan with a 70-200 without IS. I think I could have done better if I just had taken my 300 f/4 IS with me. But this is one of the best pan shots I got. Not tooo bad. In this small size the speedboat is sharp enough and the surroundings blurred enough to give the impression of speed.

Now the bonfire finally started.

Again while waiting I shot this one. For whatever reason I think this is the most interesting shot I took yesterday of people waiting for the bonfire. Not sure what it is about this photo that is interesting.

Tommy, these are all very nice photos. I really like them. Seems like it was a really good sunny day. Seems like the graduating kids look similar to our graduation. We just don't go around to every house begging for alcohol! :p
