"HELP"
For Fathers Day I had a Canon iP4200 printer, after installing it found it had a bad squeak, but it printed great.
Now, because of the squeak on Canon's recommendation, I exchanged it for another unit. I now have a another problem, it prints everything with a mauve hue! I now have a third unit with the same problem.
Spoke with Canon Technician and they had no idea.
The only thing I haven't changed is to a USB 2 cable, but having said that the first printer was perfect.
Any help would be appreciated.

Is your monitor calibrated? Did you clean the print head and do the auto clean? Did you align the print head?

Yes. It sounds like it either needs new inks (which I'm sure you just put in) or needs to be cleaned (use the printer utilities). I'm assuming you're not using the same ink cartridges from both printers?

The monitor is calibrated, deep cleaning does nothing, neither does print head alignment. The first printer printed just fine, great image. But it had an annoying noise while printing, so I took it back to get one that didn't make the noise. New printer noise is gone , but the print color sucks. Greyscale is way off, has blue purple accent to it and so do the color prints. Before installing the new printer, I uninstalled the printer drivers and all software that came with the printer, then did a reg clean. Then downloaded the newest drivers from Canon, and installed them. We have now tried this with a third iP4200 and still the same problem.

HELP!
or i will have to buy another brand.

it may be colour management - what are you using
i got a mauve hue when i had different colour spaces set up

Yes, maybe you need to adjust the printer color profile. Having the monitor calibrated is only half the battle. The printer has to be profiled, too.

However, if your first image was indeed "fine", then I don't know what to tell you.

I'm starting to think you got two in a row with the same problem. Take it back once more and try a new one. If that doesn't work, maybe a different printer?

He said he tried it with a third. It's clearly something wrong with you or your system. I can't imagine 3 in a row from the same place of the same printer having a problem. That's awfully coincidental.

I'm not familiar with the ip4200, but I ran into a similar problem with my i9900 until I figured out that I switched the cyan and photo cyan cartridges. If the ip4200 has multiple cartriges, make sure they are inserted in the right slots.

if you take the printer back, and get them to print a photo from their own computer, you'll be able to tell if it is your sytem, or the printer. I have a ip6000, and love it. If i had spent a little more time thinking about it, i would have got one with 8 inks, and a3 paper. The only hiccup came when i used cartridge world refills, and then my photos had a mauve tinge to them too, but as soon as i put original inks back in, it worked fine again.( But i know that is not your problem, as your printer is new, with canon ink in them.) Let us know what the end result is.

Thank you all very much for your response.
I have now tried everything you've all suggested, except to take it back to the supplier and have them connect it to one of their computers.
I am now wishing I kept my old Canon i850.

Thanks again, if you have any more ideas please advise.

what colour management ICC file is the printer using
should be under colour management or colour properties
what program are you printing from and what colour management is there

I would make sure the image is set to sRGB - the photosoftware is set to sRGB and the printer is set to sRGB colour space and see
This fixed my mauve issue which occured on different machines - Ihave 4 PC/laptops sharing on printer HP photoprinter.

Well i have tried the ICC profiles, setting it in the printing properties first to sRGB, and then in photoshop. But still that same problem. B/W pictures look like duatones, they are not grayscale. I am curious why this printer has two black cartridges, if it is not using only one for grayscale, somehow, there seems to be color leaking into B/W photographs. This is more annoying than the color being off in the color prints. I hope that someone else has some suggestions. I am at a loss as what to do now.

go with advice above - get a replacement

Not worth the money to put up with it. Replace it. If it doesn't suit you still, get another model. I know sometimes a whole bunch of them don't work right. Did I miss something or did you try it on another computer?

Good show! I'm glad you worked it out. Now I'll get working on my printer. It's got weird color sometimes. :)
