Dr. Seuss books have been in many kids' libraries, including mine! They were always a favourite for me... because of the characters and wacky stories. Well, at a little high school (student body of only 110, one of which is my step-sister) in a small Saskatchewan town, they have put together a production celebrating the works of Dr. Seuss. It brings together characters from 15 different books into a whole new story for this musical.

It really surprised me just how much talent this school has for being so small. All the lead roles were extraordinary and very well cast. The costumes and set design was also very well done. I'll let the images speak for themselves. It was a really fun show to watch! I happened to have a front row seat, so didn't even have to move and get in people's way!

(Sorry for so many images, but it was a really photogenic performance and I shot over 200 total)

This was probably one of my favourite things to shoot in a long time. Great performance with a great spot to shoot from, which resulted in some shots that I'm very happy with. I was kind of disappointed when my credit card didn't arrive last week... so I wasn't able to order my 70-200mm f/2.8 in time, which would have been just awesome for this event... but I'm very happy with how my faithful 85mm performed!

Comments or crits? :) I can't figure out which one is my favourite...

Wonderful pictures - I love seeing the enjoyment in people's faces at a show, and this captures them well. For me, the excitement in the eyes of #13 makes it a real cracker of a picture.

I have some friends involved in a "Seussical in a week" production in Dunblane (I'm otherwise occupied for that week, otherwise I'd be involved myself). If you're interested, there's more at http://www.seussical.net.

Suessical really is an enjoyable show, saw an excellent production in Mossley last year, well worth a visit if it's on near you!

Well done, Spearin!

The lighting and costumes look very good for a small high school production.

I would crop out some of the empty space in front of the actor in #6 and behind him in #11.

Fantastic images ... great captures ... look a tad oversharpened to me but who cares! Fun, fun, fun. :-)

Quite impressive for such a small school and you captured the spirit of the play quite well. My community theatre is rehearsing Seussical now and will open in four weeks. Looking forward to shooting it.

I almost forgot about this thread!

Cheers for all of the comments :D

-NM: Yeah, I'm not too sure what those red dots are... and didn't even catch them during PP.

Dwight: What kind of monitor are you using? I know that LCD's (particularly on Macs) make my shots appear sharper than on my CRT. I'll try and not sharpen them as much next time and see what you think ;)

Thanks especially for any crits :) That's what will only make me better.
