I'm ordering it in parts. In a month the next light comes and I'll have two strobes, but for now, well I'm trying to make due with one light and a softbox.

This is from my first shoot, and it's tricky since I can't see the modelling light on myself, but it turned out ok.

I love your processing man.

The expression is characteristically disturbing.

What light did you get?

Thanks man.

I picked up an Alienbees B800 and the mid sized soft box. I'm happy with it but I'm trying to figure out how to control light spillage since it throws the light pretty damn wide

You might want to add some barndoors or just a small transluscent (shoot-through) umbrella or snoot to your arsenal.

yeah I was thinking barn doors, but I'm not sure you can attach them to a softbox, so I'm trying to figure out how to get a difussed light, but specular so I can control spilloff. And honestly, I'm so stumped, haha

Hmm. Yeah you can't get barndoors on a softbox. Specular is "sortof" the opposite of soft...so you can't really have specular plus soft at once...but maybe you need a smaller softbox or the smallest octobox possible for the effect you're trying to achieve?

Yeah, maybe go with a small soft box and move it closer to the subject. Hence it's still a diffused light source relative to the subject, and hopefully it spills less

I'm sure I'll work something out

That might work since you can always reduce the power of the strobe.

Nice shot Rich, in your own style as usual. Good luck with the studio kit :)

LOL I think you have a cavity...

Try and bounce the light with a white flat board or reflector.

I'm sure I'll work something out There's an "eggcrate" for softboxes. Basically a large cell grid to control the spill. I'm not sure you can get them for bees though.
