Many of us must know War Photographer (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0309061/), a great movie about James Nachtwey.

Are there other movies which can be related to photography or photographers?

James Woods...
Actually, James Woods was the photographer in another movie: Salvador

In the Line of Fire, Nick Nolte co-starred along with Joanna Cassidy, Gene Hackman and Ed Harris.

I saw that one movie about James Nachtwey...fascinating. What I remember was his methodical approach to photography; [almost] always using a light meter before taking the shot. More importantly, I marveled how easily he was able to move around in scenes where you'd think a person with a camera would stick out like a sore thumb. Good stuff.

thanks. If I remember correctly the ending kinda sucked.. I kind of am a sucker for the happy endings.. you know, giant swell of music lovers kissing after a long seperation.. finally discovering their soul mate, living happily ever after.. not a big fan of realistic or bittersweet endings to movies..

oops...messed up about In the Line of Fire. The movie title for the Nick Nolte, Gene Hackman, Ed Harris movie is "Under Fire". It's about the civil war in Nicaragua...Nick Nolte playing the role of a photojournalist.

I don't know that this qualifies as a "movie" but there's a nice documentary from National Geographic called The Photographers. It shows different photographers for National Geographic in the field and how they manage to get those fantastic shots.

These are interesting findings, Dave! (Sorry not commenting in chronological order, took some time to study internet. ;))

Hansel Mieth: Vagabond Photographer (http://www.filmakers.com/indivs/HanselMieth.htm) directed by Nancy Schiesari (http://rtf.utexas.edu/faculty/schiesari/) 2003 provides surely an interesting view to the America's depression.

Girl in the Mirrow - A Portrait of Carol Jerrems (http://www.dv1.com.au/ftproot/scripts/tp_CatalogueDetail.asp?q=66) directed by Kathy Drayton must be a very touching document. (Could Carol Jerrems be called The 'Robert Mappelthrone' of Australia? - This is just a wild guess, as I haven't actually seen any of her works, only read the description of the document.) - Carol has also acted a photographer in her husband's Espen Storm's movie "In Search of Anna" from 1978 (http://movies.aol.com/movie/in-search-of-anna/1017220/main).)

1998 (France) by Alain Berbérian

I saw this documentary on Bruno "Penguin" Zehnder. Swiss photographer who was mad about penguins, changed his middle name to Penguin, made countless trips to Antartica shooting penguins, was accused of being a Russian spy. Very interesting doco on a true quack:

Now they're making a film about him starring Richard Gere, "Emporer Zehnder":

Excellent cinematography in this one- at least from my reckonning. The symbolic use of light and color (and lack of it) told the story quite well all on its own. oops-- my geekness is showing again. :o

Yes, there is. Poor boys are trained to shoot cameras. Here's the excerpt:

"They also trained boys to use cameras and left them there on trips home. That resulted in 10% of the footage, including rare shots of violent incidents including police beatings."

Movie is kind a similar to "City of God"

On TV a few nights ago - "Snap ; A history of the Paparazzi"

It was much more interesting than I thought. Camera developement played a big part. Telephoto lenses , super teles and motor drives allowed them to do things that were not possible previously. The famous Princess Diana shots taken in the Bahamas when she was pregnant - the royals / secret service did not realise photos could be taken from that distance.

Shame about the paparazzi aspect - was a great doco otherwise.

The movie "November" (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0368089/) with Courtney Cox was really quite good and one I don't see mentioned often. A very good psycyological thriller -- she even teaches photography in the movie. A keyword seach on Internet Movie Database of "photography" in a plot line gets a lot (http://www.imdb.com/keyword/photography/)...and I had forgotten the famous "Rear Window" - he even uses a flash bulb to distract Raymond Burr!!! Great topic!!! "Hard Candy" -- very cool movie -- might not be everyone's cup of tea -- but the twisting (and twisted) plot make it nail biter!!

"The bang bang club"

Looks interesting. Based on true story. Based on the life of Greg Marinovich and Kevin Carter. Greg co-authored the book which was the basis of the movie. Kevin Carter, as most of us knows, is the person that won the Pulitzer back in 94 for his controversial image.

When I get bored I pick a random movie on netflix that I had never heard of. Last night it was: "High Art"

Ally Sheedy is a photographer in it. It was a pretty bad movie. One of those ones where you keep waiting for something to happen...and waiting...and waiting. Then the movie just ends and you are like "wtf was that?"
