Did you sell your 1Ds and buy a 5d and if so what did you miss and what did you like about the switch?

I'm sure I'd miss the 45 points, the weather sealing. I think I might make the switch.

The controls seem a backward step, the iso performance is better I'm sure. Did you see any gain in dynamic range?

I did and I am soooo glad I did! The 1Ds is huge and heavy, I enjoy the smaller size of the 5D. I hauled the 1Ds around Europe last fall and immediately bought a 5D upon return to take to Maui shortly after (sounds like I travel all the time. Not so. Coincidence). What a relief! The one and ONLY thing I miss is the 45 focus points. Love my 5D. Personally don't really need the weather proofing - except it does get more dust in the view finder. My 1Ds always always overexposed, another thing I don't miss! (According to Canon, nothing was wrong with it). The color processing (higher ISOs) is definitely better. I feel confident enough to use this camera for weddings, I never did with the 1Ds. The controls don't seem a step back to me, they're actually easier to handle after initial getting used to.

a friend of mine wanted me to swop my 5d for his 1ds i loved the 1ds apart from how slow it was to process the picture to the screen it seemed to take an age where on the 5d it was there before i could even take my eye out of the view finder.

That is about the only problem with the 5D. It creates the image and its gone before you ever get you eye off the view finder. I had to set it for 4 seconds to get a look.

Hmmmmm, I can't say that I would trade. I have the 5D and I love it, but most people who are used to the build and controls of the 1 series have a hard time getting used to the more pedestrian 5D. Hight ISO quality is a point in favor for the 5D if you shoot at speeds over ISO 400 regularly. But unless the weight and size is really a burden, I would stick with the 1Ds.

I keep popping this into every thread that mentions comparisons like this, but you never know Canon might be watching :)

If I could purchase a 30d/5d sized body with the 45 AF system from the 1d series my 1dMkIIN would be on the buy and sell forum faster than an Italian soccer player dives in the 18 yard box! (Yes I'm Australian and bitter lol)
