View Full Version : Battery life with IS lenses?

Considering IS lenses in my next life. The 70-200 L 2.8 IS model sounds and looks wonderful. Have any wedding shooters of this lens noticed faster battery consumption? I had never thought of it before reading the features on the B&H site. I have the 28-135 IS lens, but have not noticed any abnormal battery drain, though it's very subjective since I don't have any repeatable usage habits.

Thanks!

I haven't really noticed any decrease in battery performance. My last two weddings were shot with IS lens on both cameras, and I didn't notice my batteries draining any faster than normal.

I use that lens regulary throughout a wedding day, 2 good batteries in the grip last all day. Canon do publish numbers that say it uses the battery x% faster, but I don't know the number offhand.

I noticed the IS lenses go through batteries at a faster rate, but it's still negligible. I also noticed my Digital Rebel 300D went through a couple of batteries every wedding, but my 20 doesn't even finish the 2nd. (Haven't bought a grip yet...)
So efficiency in camera battery life is part of the equation......

Thanks all, Doesn't look like I have a lot to worry about in the battery department. I have 5 good ones on hand. When I shoot with the D60, it's a different story. I can blow a full battery in a light session.
I appreciate your comments!
