CDS, that is really nice, when you can get them to behave like that. Very Nice.

CDS: This is a wonderful image. I keep looking at it, which is always a good thing, thinking it's too centered, but it works since the background is so "even" and wonderfully colored and textured, and the light on the bird just brings it out as the center of attention. Ver nice indeed!

Nice shot. Is that with the 500mm ?

To answer the question further down, birds stand on one leg, otherwise they fall over. ;)

Cheers

Ian

I'll never get tired of them CDS. I always enjoy looking at your bird photos, whether they are mostly Heron, or not. You get better all the time, and it's a pleasure to view your images. Don't stop sharing.

Thanks SSim,.. as long as someone looks I'll keep posting :)

-------------------------------------------

Scooter,. a six pack and some psychedelic mushrooms judging from the intense stare on his face :D

--------------------------------------------

Rocky,.. I 'd like to think I AM more sneaky,.. :)
But I think I may just be more "magnified" :D :D hahha

--------------------------------------------

Thanks BC. I honestly think they stand on one leg to warm up the other? I seem to see them do this more often as it gets colder. Just a theory though.

----------------------------------------------

Gandini,. Thank you for your comments :)
.... in truth the original was also quite centered (I used the central focus point,. but this is a crop (I allways forget to post any of this info with a photo,.. sorry :( anyways the point being that as I cropped it I obvioulsy had a lot of freedom of what to do with the crop and played with "thirds" etc... and yet this one to me was such a "portrait" that seemed to work dead center.

I am glad you like this choice.

------------------------------------------------

Hahaha :D IWatkins :) Yep it was the 500mm

------------------------------------------------

Laz, NG, JoseC....
Thank you :D I am having so much fun with this growing passion,. and all the help knowledge and support that this forum has offered will keep me coming back for a long time :) Not to mention all your superb work as well.

"Are you all getting sick of me and my Herons yet?

that sounds just like something I would say cyber :D

no way are we getting fed up with these beautiful sights

it's another wonderful shot
and anything I said in jest was just that
we never get fed up with any of the shots
(you were saying how good your new stuff .....equipment..... was in the earlier post
and my g2 was crying out loud :~(

you hurt its feelings at the time
but its not worried now.
I reassured it )
and see the pattern on this beautiful herons head, I don't think we have seen one before ?
where it is standing looks lovely.
kind of pinkish from the sunlight
was it early morning light or late evening ?

by the way
the show you mention which you had on there a while ago (carmen) it is one of my favourites.
it must have been terrific.

the shots certainly look really really good.
makes it all worth while.

I won't rib you any more cyber
(if I can help it)

:)

CDS,
I'm definitely not tired of heron pictures, especially when of this quality. The muted oak leaves in the background are just right and the lighting on the heron is great. I can't remember all the photos I've seen of yours, can't even remember all of my own that well, but this is one of the best. I would really like to see how good a print you can get because it is still not clear too me the difference in image quality between what I see here and what a quality print would be like.
A couple questions, with the 500 mm lens how close did you need to be to get this shot?
Was this early morning or late afternoon lighting?
Finally all the pictures I believe I have seen are of Great Blue Herons, any reason? I recently went out hoping to get some nice bird shots, spotted a Great Blue Heron and then a couple seconds later a Green Heron. Unfortunately I was too far away to get anything other than a so, so shot of either, needed a 500 mm lens myself. Anyway the Green Heron is quite lovely any shots of anthing other than the Great Blue?
