Hello there. I have taken photos of a rainbow today outside the window with my G5.

Now here comes my question,
What do you think about the composition of the one picture with a window?
Do you think the window destroyed the scene or it does its job to reflect the beauty of the rainbow?

Hi Mike,
They're both good shots, but I prefer the one without the window. It seems that in your window shot, the window and hardware are "in the way", as opposed to the effect that I think you were trying to get. Maybe if you backed up a little and showed more of the open window frame...

I like more the one without the window. But I almost equally like the one with the window, especially for the higher intesity of the rainbow.

Folklore has always told us about the "end of the rainbow", since the window shot leads nowhere, I personally prefer the no-window shot. Nice work.

With window. Without it, it's just a picture of a rainbow

No window. Unless you use a "standard" window that is clean, like looking through an open picture (no pun intended) window that is open

Thanks guys! Just... what's wrong with the window? It looks natural isn't it?... (sorry, I dunno much about photography... Would be glad if you can recommend some webpages to me... ;-) )

To me, it just doesn't look good. It looks outta-place. And again, we are getting into personal preference here, and how we look at things differently.
The idea of using a window is good, this is just a poor example of a window.

Thanks for your advice! ;-)

Brad is right (in my opinion)... the window, or specifically the frame of the window is in silhouette and relies too heavily on the glass to confirm that it is a window instead of just something in the way. The latch is too large in perspective for the “through the open window” effect that is best done by showing at least two parts of the window frame, the vertical edge and either the top or bottom edge. Again, just my opinion. Still nice shots!
