I would like to know what you would have done different. How to make this shot better?

Oooh, he made me jump! How could you imrpove on a shot like this when he's coming right at you like that? If it was me, I'd be lucky if I didn't drop the camera!

I think you did well to manage to get a capture of this fierce looking dog. Mine would have been very blurred with the shakes.
I take it the dog doesn't like having his photo taking. A bit like a celebrity when they get their photos taken by paparazzi without permission.
Under these conditions your shot is very good.

Personally I like it not in color, like this maybe, because I find it lets me focus more on the teeth and the face then the multicolored background:

But its all subjective. Its an awesome shot.

The story of the shot is the dog is a military dog with a very bad attitude. I was going to take a few shots for the handler as a going away present. I pointed the camera at the dog and said smile for the camera. The well traind dog did and thought I was lunch.

Great shot and nothing under the situation wud have done better justice to the shot. However I like the PP done there by plan9 ...just reduces the interference by the BG.

Cool shot. Better? I don't think so, unless you were behind some bullet/fang proof glass with a tripod.

I wanted to reach in and pop the spit bubble. Then I decided to keep all my fingers. This is though the most angry animal I have ever meet.

What would I have done different?

I would have used your 100-400 at 400mm so I could put five times the distance between me and those teeth!

Great shot though. Even the cutest dog can look devilish when they show their front teeth like that.
