View Full Version : Vertical shooting issue on D30

At times when I take a vertical picutre, it seems that half the picture is a lot light than the other. Anyone else experience this and have any ideas how to fix it?

Do you use the battery grip? I've had no problems with that.

...while on the subject, is there anyone who knows what the manual for the grip refers to when it says "With the light-metering horizontal/vertical automatic conversion function, it is possible to take light-metered vertical shots of the same quality as horizontal ones."...?

Is it a marketing department way of saying "your camera works even if you tilt it" or is something really changed regarding metering? And if something is changed, does the change apply when you switch the grip on or when you press the shutter button on the grip instead of the normal one?

Just a thought I haven't been able to get out of my head... :-)

I think this means my D30 will work fine in Australia. :D It really does sound like marketing gobbledegook, doesn't it, Uffe? But may someone out there knows different.

A cameras on-board meter is biased "think" the sky is above the ground in a horizontal shot. So, when you flip to a vert shot, a little mercury switch (or whatever they may be using) tells the camera to "think" about that bias of the sky being above the ground in the new orientation.

Just remember= f/8 @ 1/125 is the same on any camera. it doesn't matter how computerized your camera is.

I do use the battery grip. It only seems to happen on some images and not others.
