You need to be where you can get the faces of the rider. Looks like you had your back to the sun but sometimes you need to break that rule to get a better action shot.
Good wide angle to show the crowd interest, where was this event?

Perhaps it would have been better not to show the crowd. What I am getting from their body language is "Wow, this is really boring".
A tighter shot on the main subject may well have worked better in this case.

Thanks for the comments guys!! I was really under the gun to get some shots before the daylight ran out. I should of at least snapped off a few frames back into the sun to get a different angle, but oh well. Here is another shot I also liked. This shot brings in a few of the points you guys made about no crowd and a view of the rider. To answer the other question, the event was held at a local shop in Omaha, NE. Thanks again for the input! :D

Much better, not sure what your equipment list is but open up what ever lenses you have to blur out the background.... good job.
