Please C&C my pp and comp.
Some of the exif data was lost during a mistaken save in PS, sorry.
2 of the blue backgrounds were added, I do not like them now that I see them.
Raw processed with "RawShooter Essentials" Tif's process in batch scripts in PSP8, PS was only used as cleanup using healing brush on full size jpegs, then used script to resize to 50% in PSP8.

Looked through your airshow pics and to me composition looks really good, a shame that skies were overcasted, otherwise perfect shots. The bg's added didn't work for me since in some of them you have cut out parts of the aircrafts, and the prop blur is just not there. The C-130 shots with the prop wash showing are great, brings me memories of my time working on them back in the 80's (USAF). Keep shooting and posting.

Good start under tough conditions! The good news is that you didn't have to fight contrast from bright sunlight. Bad news is that you're going to hear a LOT about prop blur. :D
You have some nice shots in there. Keep it up!

Look in this gallery which has the exif data: Marauder61 (http://www.pbase.com/marauder61/biplane_class)
Some good info here, but he doesn't get shutter speed right either. ;)

Thanks Mike and PhotosGuy!

Prop Blur, is a beautiful thing! I never even thought of that until reading these comments and after looking at a few pictures from the above links. So shutter speed must have to change with different types of aircraft then, and all along I was trying to get the fastest shutter possible, I could have dropped the ISO and saved myself a bit of clean-up work! I plan on seeing the Thunderbirds in August, show center will be right over Lake Champlain, really hoping for sunshine! I will be reading up in the meantime.

Is there a general rule for shutter speeds to freeze the plane but not the props, or does it differ too greatly?

I'm jealous, the arishow here in RI was a total washout. The pics look great weather considered.

Quoting adamsti: "General rule of thumb for props, 1/250 and slower for flying aircraft. 1/200 and 1/160 give very nice blur. For aircraft taxing 1/125 and slower. 1/60 is very good here. Obviously here you need a steady hand, but it can be done with practice."

This should put both me and my IS to the test, Thanks!

OMG this guy is incredible, panning a 400mm @1/80 !!! Now that is not just a steady hand but a very practice motion!

That is some great work and a bounty of info just looking at the exif data, I now have a new starting point and a goal, thanks Frank!

Prop blur, what's that?? LOL. Good job under horrible lighting conditions. My site it not set up like Victor's with the EXIF data below the photo, but all the EXIF is embedded in the photos. Just Google an EXIF viewer, install it, and right click on the image.

Nice pics AGP. I was planning on going to the Westfield show, But didn't 'cause of the weather. Seems like maybe I should have gone anyways! Thanks for sharing!
