I'm interested in freezing fast-action pictures and just recently purchased S230/IXUS V3. I know it has a shutter speed ranges from 1/1500 - 15". I can adjust the long shutter mode from 1"-15" for slow shutter. How about anything beyond 1", such as 1/250 or 1/500 ? I don't see anything like that in my camera. This might be a silly question, but I'm just a beginner and wondering if anybody can help me with this question or ever taking any panning, streaking or freezing fast-action pictures before. Thanks a whole bunch

Dont know ur cam specificaly, but what i found is that zoom and the apature (each) directly effect the shutter, kinda.
The zoom increases the app(smaller hole), means a longer shutter to counter act.

Actually zoom decreases aperture (increases f#) so you need a slower shutter speed to compensate. The A70 allows as maximum aperture f2.8 at no zoom and f4.8 as soon as you start zooming. If your camera doesn't have a manual, or a Tv (shutter speed) priority mode you are kind of scuppered. If it does then setting 1/250 will stop most movement but will require full sunlight unless you can set the ISO value up to 200 or even 400 which will result in noisy shots!

Sorry, its late, i new one went one way and another went somewhere else.
I should know to, i learn't why it does it on a post here.
Its anoying cause i try to zoom in for quick shutters, and then to counteract the app, my shutter decreases(time).
Anoying but i'll deal.
