Did you check with Tony Soprano?

It seems like we heard about a cheaper place within the last few days. US$800?

Make sure that you specify whether it is the camera body alone or the camera with lens, just to avoid confusion.

Just because there's a fancy looking website and a good price does not mean there's a bargain at the other end. There are some VERY shady camera outlets out there so be careful!!!

Check this out!! http://www.panix.com/~donwiss/pictures/BrooklynStores/

This is so true. I looked for over a month at these on-line shops from New York. I monitored the consumer sites that have customer reviews, like pricegrabber.com. They’re commonly planted! I saw one instance where the exact (I mean verbatim word for word) praise was submitted from people in "separate parts of the country". The funniest part was that they were submitted consecutively so the one appeared right after the other in the reviews. What a scam! I’d stay far away form the Brooklyn ones especially. They sell “new” cameras with no warrantee (i.e. gray market). And if you don’t order accessories, your order will literally never get filled- it will remain on “permanent backorder”. You will call, there will always be some story about some kind of delay, but it is a lie.

Let's not say that they are VERY shady.

Let's just say that they are a few f-stops darker than B&H.

OH MY GOD DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH BRAODWAY PHOTO!

I can think of no more to say except this;

Check any online bargain at ;

Some of the stories are truly frightening... and Bway photo is among the worst.

And the sad thing is, once enough people become aware of places like this, all they have to do is change their name and start all over again. Best to stick with companies you know and trust, especially where significant dollars might be involved. The risks are too great, and the opportunities for getting 'skinned,' too plentiful.

We've done $5K plus in business with B&H and had zero problems. Most of our shipments arrived ahead of the estimated delivery date. BH is the only place I personally will do business via mail order. Just my 2 bits...

They also do some sale via ebay, so you might check that location too.

I've also had very good experience with B&H, although I do have a little problem we need to clear up on a duplicate billing issue (my fault, incidentally). Because they've been closed for the last week, I haven't been able to talk to anyone to resolve it, but I'm not at all concerned. They're good people as far as I can tell.

B&H has given me great service and values. The only other place I'd consider is Adorama.com.

Robert is not responding to my query. Anyway, I've had awesome service with B&H. Bought a previously purchased (never worn) photo vest that came as the wrong size. A quick phone call and the exchange was underway and went super smooth.

I've bought most of my accessories from them and am completely happy with B&H. I bought my D60 from Ritz and that was a freaking nightmare, though they did come through and ended up shipping my camera early, and bought my 10D with CDW -- no complaints there either.

Got a year? ;)

Read the reviews or search the forum database here as it's been discussed a bunch already. You don't have to go back far in the forum to find threads that already have that info.

In a nutshell, the Drebel is a crippled 10D. Same basic sensor (jury is still out on if they are exact clones) but with missing features. The Drebel does take the new series of "S" lenses I think they are called, in which only one now exists. The "S" lenses will not work on ANY other EOS camera, digital or film.

I didn't say that at all. B&H has gotten a very high percentage of my equipment business over the last year. If you consider B&H to be good and bright, then some of the other companies of that same area are darker (using the photographer's analogy).

I assume it's an achronym for something.

I would not say that the Digital Rebel is crippled. Let's just say that it might be a 10D to begin with, and then it has one hand tied up and it is wearing ankle weights on both legs. Other than that, I'm sure it is a fine camera.

Ahh okay. Broadway Photo is way down in the deep dark hole so for B&H to be just (only) a shade darker meant (to me) that they weren't all the great in your book.

Yikes! That sound pretty well crippled-up to me! :) And yes, it is a fine camera, but comparing the 10D to the Rebel is akin to comparing the 10D to the 1D. They are two entirely different markets, although similar cameras.

The only thing that frustrates so many purchasers of B&H is when they take a long religious vacation in October, and the place shuts down. If we were smart, we would read the little business calendar of operations that B&H publishes.

Thank goodness. I was afraid someone just couldn't spell 'rueful.'

Had I put those fears in writing, I would now be rueful instead of ROOFL. It makes a big difference.

Thanks for the edification.

Just to step back to the original question - etronics.com has the Digital Rebel with lens for $949 - not a lot of discount, but not bad for a hot, new camera.
I have bought several items from etronics, and up until the last purchase, I was extremely impressed. They are highly automated, and very efficient. Even the last purchase was delivered quickly, however - I ordered a 550EX flash, and when it arrived I discovered it was grey market. Etronics is proud to announce to everyone that their products are all new, not refurbished. But they never mention a word about grey market.
Now in the case of the Digital Rebel, if they are selling a Digital Rebel (instead of a 300D), it can't be grey market, so if you like the price, go for it.
I don't begrudge them for selling grey market, but I want to know when I'm getting grey market. In the case of the flash, there were two issues - I want the USA warranty for electronics as complicated as the flash, and there is a rebate that is only good for Canon USA products. I haven't sworn off of etronics, but I will be more cautious with them in the future.
To jump back on the tangent, I have dealt with B&H in the past, and things have always been positive. They advertise both grey market and USA, and tell you which is which.
Have Fun

Ouch!! Interesting that I got the link from Amazon. Humm.

Just for fun I ran Dell's name through reseller rattings..

Oh my! I wonder now if I will ever get my 70-200 L IS from them?

My current home system is from Dell and I have had my monitor die 3 times so far. In one of the exchanges (I paid for the 3-year warranty) they tried swapping monitors on me from my Sony Trinitron to some funky no-name Dell monitor and then tried telling me it was better.

Yeah right.

Also had some ordering issues from them regarding a Pocket PC purchase (their Axim brand) and had to cancel the order and re-order because their salesperson had no idea what they were doing.

And when dealing with the monitor have had to deal countless times with their EXTREMELY poor customer service that is now based in India where they just barely speak english. The people are super nice, but many times their accent is so heavy you can't undertsand what they are saying and many times they have no idea what you are even asking for. Very frustrating.

So, that rating for Dell is not far off the mark in my opinion and this lens fiasco does not surprise me one bit.

It is typical Dell.

I purchased the D Rebel w/Lens for $639.00 , 2weeks ago....the price does fluctuate, like the stock market, though. The 10D is under $1000 also, I believe They can both be purchased online at: www.digitalliquidators, out of Brooklyn N.Y.

It's known that they 'plant' good reviews on the review sites and even hit the forums with alleged positive buys too.

DO NOT buy from ANY of these stores. You may think you're saving $200, but you'll end up losing $650.

B&H, Adorama, Dell, Gateway, Best Buy...Stay with the names you know, If it sounds too good to be true, it's probably a ripoff.
