I work my day job in computers and I work a part time job in photography. I don't see a way I can do photography full time with my family situation so I'm happy enough working my full time job and doing my photo thing on the side.

The problem is, I'm bored with my current side photo job. I work for a youth sports company and I take portraits and team shots of kids sports team -- indoor and outdoor. You know, soccer, baseball, basketball, etc. They don't really shoot any action shots and if there are any assignments like that I'm not likely to be the one to get them cause they have 1 full time photog who generally gets those assignments.

I think I've learned all I can from this job and I'm ready to move onto something better. I'm thinking photograhers assistant, second shooter, etc. Maybe even assignments for the local newspaper or something.

After all this, my question is -- how do i find those jobs? I've checked craigslist and various other job sources and I can't find any photo jobs. Is there some web site where I could find a photographer who needs an assistant? Or does anyone have a suggestion on where I could look?

thanks for any help!

In Canada we have a couple of forum boards that specific to news photographers and they have forum boards with a category just for jobs. You can try and hunt one of these down and put an offer out there to work with someone.

Here (http://digitalphotographers.infopop.cc/eve/forums/a/frm/f/9706062302) is another forum where you find alot of photogs putting up themselves for assignment. It seems more US based.

You could try knocking on doors of established studios asking for work. I'd do some more internet work looking for different types of photographic associations that might have a message board you can post on.

Go into studios!!

Weddings, Portraits, Fashion, Pets, Local Newspaper....

If you go into these studio's, just drop off your resume and wait to hear back from them. I did this for a lot of photography jobs! I got a newspaper job as a photojournalist when i was 16 because i could take good photo's! I got paid something like $5 an hour and sometimes i would only do 4 hrs a week lol but it was still experience in my books.

E-mail a whole heap of places in your area...even ask if they need photoshop work soley done (I know places liek to take the shots then palm off the PS work - personally i love pping).

Just try your best and hardest because there's ALWAYS going to be somewhere out there looking for someone to do a job in this industry - you just have to have the necessary skills, and by the sounds of it - you do.

PS: GOOD LUCK!
