I know this is a lame topic but i've tried everything to resize my pictures. nothing works. i use the highest resolution on the camera. When i try to resize them on my computer theyr so massive it cause virtual memory problems. i even tryed paint shop pro to resize them and it made it worse it locks up.

I cant share 3 meg picture files. upload time is ridiculous on a 56 k...

Don't forget JPG compression. It's one of the best ways to reduce the file size without making them the size of postage stamps.

When you goto save, click on Options and Run Optimizer. Then you can see the file size and the effects compression has on the picture.

If you are having virtual memory problems, you may want to consider getting more memory for your computer. I'd say that having a minimum of 256 MB of RAM is a good start and having 512 MB would be better, especially if you are working with large RAW files. Something to think about.

I've found that if I resize the picture to be the width of 500 or 550 pixels or a height of 600 pixels (whichever axis is important to you) and let PSP properly scale the other axis, you can get a good resize. After resizing, sharpen the image, since it gets a little fuzzy and then do a save as a .JPG file and set the .JPG to low compression...maybe a 10-15 level.

I can usually get a good, crisp 2MB file down to something like 100-200K and still be wonderful.

Here is a sample of a file that was scaled down from 2 MP and it is only 98K I believe. It is still crisp:
