I'm looking for the best cheap photo printer to use for the G3. Direst printing from the memory cards or the camera or whatever. not one I have to hook up to my computer this laptop is to slow to even resize the maximum resolution pictures from the camera. i'm on a 400 dollar budget...
4X6 and 8X10 resolution, i'd prefer it do both...
Even though all my best pictures are on my computer now so one that hooks to the computer to i guess. unless you can reupload a file to cameras memory card?

I recently bought a Canon MP 700 which I think is terrific. It has a card reader along with scanning, copying, and printing functions. It cost under 300 dollars. I also looked at all the HP models and although they were cheaper, the cost of ink in the long run made running the machine costlier.
I bought it because my wife didn't want to mess around with turning on the computer to print her pictures. (She has a Canon A70--she just pops the compact flash card in and prints index sheets or individual pictures as she needs.)
I have a G-30 and needed a machine that could do more than just print pictures. The photo quality is very good and its quite easy to use with many options available to print the different sizes of photos that you indicated.
The downside to the machine is that it is rather large compared to the HPs.

here's 2 Canon printers you might consider, the plus for canon is the individual tanks, much cheaper that way, the first one reads from cards and direct from a canon compatible camera

I would definitely go for Canon 560 or 860. Great all-around printers with good photo quality and reasonable on the cost of ink. Stick to Canon Photo Pro papers.

I'm looking at the new HP 7960. My experience with HP printers has been excellent. I've been reading posts about it at dpreview, and most have been very positive (they rave about black and white).
The worry I'd have with Canon and Epson is the clogging print heads which seems to plague too many owners.
While HP may be a bit more costly for ink, it seems running cleaning cycles on the others wastes a lot of ink (in over 4 years with 2 HP printers, I've never had to run a cleaning cycle).

I use Costco too. No worries about the high price of ink, the Costcos around me are very friendly (redo errors if there are any), and I love the 12x18s for $2.99. It was a Costco 12x18 (shot with a G2) that got a Jurors Choice award.
Get to know your staff and they'll do just about anything for you (at least they do for me). It's supposed to be 24 hour turnaround but if I go in with just a couple 12x18s to do they'll have them for me in 5-10 minutes.

I own a HP Photosmart 7350 and print quality is quite amazing. Cost per copy is higher than some external printing service, but when you do things yourself you have more flexibility, I think.
A bad point is that this printer does not print borderless on A4, but only on 10x15cm sheets. Oh well. I can still use a pair of scissors :)
