At first I thought it might be a device blowing sand. Trains use sand to increase traction for their wheels.

Practically everyone in the UK does windows. I was at the british museum on a tour and the tour guide asked for a show of hands of all the people that were window washers. There were a lot of locals and 70% of the men raised their hands. At the time, I was too so I also rose my hand.

I initially thought either sucking or blowing sand.. Very interesting photo!!

Great shot.

Spot on. I find it amazing that a few grains of sand will move a 126-tonne locomotive and it's load....
Purely for context, it was the sanders on this locomotive......
