Hello all, this will be my first post here. What a great resource this site has been! I just ordered an S2 IS from Dell yesterday, as they had a good special running. What I'd read about this camera was very good, and I've been pretty happy with my Powershot S30 that it will replace.
Anyway, my question is if anyone knows of any good (but reasonably priced) underwater housings that would work with this camera? Any first-hand experiences with them? I've seen the one from Ikelite (http://www.ikelite.com/web_two/can_s2is.html), but it's very expensive. Thanks for any help that you can provide!

wow, that's expensive! At one time, I had the underwater housing for the S1 - I ordered the one made by Canon, and I'm sure it was nowhere near that expensive. (I think I paid about $169.00) My son inherited it, along with the S1 when I upgraded. I never used the underwater housing, so can't tell you how effective it was.

I just googled around, and it seems that the Ikelite product is the only game in town. And it is very expensive. Strange.

Yeah, Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0001GNDPC/103-4810052-3819066?v=glance&n=502394) still sells the one for the S1, but there does not seem to be an equivalent one for the S2 (or S3?). Ugh!
EDIT: I'm going to contact Canon today and see what the deal is.

I've found this: http://www.thewaterproofstore.com/slrcameracase.html
it's limited to a slight depth, though

Well, here is what I got back from Canon today:
Thank you for your interest in the PowerShot S2 IS. Underwater housings are made when the camera is released. Because one was not created, I doubt an underwater case will be made for either camera [S3 IS is the other camera he refers to]. I apologize for this inconvenience. Please feel free to contact us again if you have any other questions or concerns. Thank you for choosing Canon.
Blast! If I'm going to have this camera, I want to be able to use a good (and affordable) housing for it. I'm really angry that Canon decided to not to make a housing for these, yet they seem to have them for all (or just about all) their other digicams. I don't want one of those bag-type ones... I just can't imagine they would be as good. :-(
This is the only other one I can find:

i remember my sister buying an underwater housing for her camera, and it was hideously expensive, and used only once (by me). I intend to buy either an optio wp, or an olympus mju to use in wet areas (and these go under water too), and for when i go snorkelling next. At least i will get better value for my money (can take it then to the beach, pool etc). The photos i ended up with using the housing were not that great, very tricky using it actually, and with the waterproof camera it will be a lot easier.
