OK it's taken me about a week off and on to make it through all 152 pages of this thread, I bought the lens about 50 pages ago.:D Still learning how to use it seem to have a lot of throw aways but I'm really enjoying it.

Is there anyway to see the EXIF data on the pictures that the user hasn't posted the information? Some say the data is imbedded but I can't seem to figure out how to see it.

Anyway.... Here's one I kept and first of probably many that I'll post in this thread.

C&C welcome, I know I've got a lot to learn.

depends how they saved their photo - if you use photoshop 'save for web' command the exif data is stripped away and can't be seen, as it saves a copy of the photo.

but if i'm curious, i just save the shot to my desktop and right click properties, summary, advanced. if there is any exif to show, it will be there.

All my stuff comes from myspace, easy to upload and unlimited space, but it strips exif data.

I just got mine this week...what can I say about this lens that hasn't been said already? hmmm nothing. I think this lens is something that EVERY bag should have, of course if the 1.4 exists thats even better but, for us that don't have the money for the other one, this lens is everything you can imagine in a portrait lens.

I'm just learning to use it but I got this lens to take good pictures of my kid here are some decent images so far.

will this lens do me well with a no flash concert i'm shooting in april and an informal reception i'm doing in may? i've had it for like a month but i'm still new to it. the AF on its screws with my brain. its too off for my taste but what i've shot has been wide open. for some reason i think i've heard like a 2.8 is great with this lens. is that true that its not always great wide open? where should i expect to be at with a moderate/mediocre(spelling?) lit concert? thanks people!

Couldn't get the WB right with this one, due to the flash bouncing off the green walls. I kind of gave up in the end, didn't want to waste too much time on it. She is a happy little girl when she wakes up though.

My neighbour. EXIF is intact, 430EX bounced vertically, +2/3EC (which I think was a tad too much but has wiped out any irregularities on his skin).

Since the wife inherited my old XTi she's really enjoyed learning how to use it. She's now challenged me to a picture a day type posting between she and I on our .Mac Galleries. I'm using it as an opportunity to learn teh 50mm on items I usually wouldn't shoot. Here's yesterday's entry. Of course C&C is always appreciated.

the eyes in this shot really caught my attention because of their colour, and the pose is very natural too, so i thought i'd do a little PP to bring out his features more and make the eyes pop. i didnt do any spot editing, just a small crop, some lighting & colour balancing, and a bit of sharpening. your shot was slightly underexposed and a bit flat - i hope you dont mind my edit:

I personally don't care much for the dark/dim look, just a personal taste thing, so I thought the edit helped that shot.

From your portrait it's obvious that you're a young man and, let me say, I congratulate you on setting off on this creative journey!

 thats funny cos i wondered whether it was a self portrait (altho i guess with your friend doing the shooting, strictly speaking it's not)

i didn't adjust the saturation at all, just the levels and added a little bit of yellow to compensate for being in the shade

is that your natural eye colour? quite unique, only saw one other person with such green eyes, a friend of mine from back in high school

Not much going on in this shot, but I thought it would be a good example of the DOF when used at f/1.8.

Yeah the depth of focus is so shallow in your shot - I cannot even see it! :D

I think that you may be having a photo attachment issue - I see nothing in your post.

Good point bauerman. I guess sometimes it helps to actually attach the photog in the first place :D. Let's try again.

I personally don't care much for the dark/dim look, just a personal taste thing, so I thought the edit helped that shot.

From your portrait it's obvious that you're a young man and, let me say, I congratulate you on setting off on this creative journey!
yeah i love photography :) its been about 3.5 months now, 3 grand on gear, and already im getting awesome opportunitys handed to me, i've got a job at a graphic/web design studio as a freelancer photographer and im getting paid.. LOTS! :D i've got my first shoot with them in about 4 weeks doing a golf day which will be about 7 hours.. and i'll get $1500! :D got my first wedding in less than a month too, got a really good friend of mine backing up, i'm really prepared and really exited!
 thats funny cos i wondered whether it was a self portrait (altho i guess with your friend doing the shooting, strictly speaking it's not)

i didn't adjust the saturation at all, just the levels and added a little bit of yellow to compensate for being in the shade

is that your natural eye colour? quite unique, only saw one other person with such green eyes, a friend of mine from back in high school

its not my actual eye colour, my eyes are green, but not that amazingly green, i just did a little photoshop trick, the natural green isn't that much different, just slightly less saturated..

Very nice shots, Ash'!

You don't need a 5D to have less noise at 1600. You can get less noise at high ISO with the xxD bodies, or get a noise reduction program.

Hi, first post on this forum. I'm new to this and SLR photography in general, but after seeing these shots I rushed out to my local camera store to pick up one of these lenses. Unfortunately they were sold out, but I ordered one online that actually ended up being cheaper than what they had it for :) It's nice to know I can get excellent shots without breaking the bank on a lens! Nice job, and thanks for all the posts with this lens!

Welcome to the forum and be sure to post some of your 50mm shots here in this thread as you begin to use it. Online retailers will generally have lower prices than local camera stores or chain stores. My local store is where I play with goodies - but never buy. ;)
