Although the photos on the thread look amazing, I'm keen to know the sharpeness of the images that come straight out of the camera...without any pp. Anyone got examples?
This lens is sharp as a tack from f/1.8 on up :D ... or at least my copy is. If you are thinking of using it for a starter portrait lens, it will definitely make you happy, but the AF performance is slower than some of the other "portrait primes" that cost alot more.
no PP. Fullsize of this one, I can clearly make out all of the little hairs on my cat's face:

this is not JUST a 240sx... it is a GREAT 240sx illustrated perfectly. The Defi row and steering wheel are simply "delicious"
congrats for the car and photos :)
Thanks!! I appreciate the comments :)
BALLER!!!
haha, yeah that is a lot of money tied up in just those 3 gauges and the controller which isn't pictured....Defi gauges are the badass tho!

well since I was using my cam to take pics of my cars. My type 3 is almost ready(you can see it a couple of posts up) this is my other project, this car has been in restoration for about 4 months and its starting to take shape. I have had my 50mm in my cam for a while for the cars, these are not the "real pictures" that are going to show off these cars but it'll do for now.
this is project "black sunshine" 1967 mustang convertible

Very nice geodes! How did you setup the lighting?
lol its a bit embarassing LOL:
ok, well it was night, so i tried using my laptop screen as a backlight and my little usb flouro tube as a toplight, but it didnt really work, too dark & mucky. so, i got my 580EX just on ettl and used my off shoe cord, and stood it up on the desk to my right, then i put some printer paper on my laptop keyboard (cos this is where i was sitting) to make a stage.
then i tried a shot but 580 was too bright so i folded another piece of printer paper into a diffuser and stuck it to the 580. and didn't like the shadow the flash cast so i folded another bit of printer paper into a tent shape and used it to bounce the flash into the shadow area. and to prop up some of the geodes i put a bit of rubber under the sheet of paper and used the little 'bump' it made to tilt the rocks.
then i kinda hunched over my laptop 'stage' and composed the shots, which was tricky cos the off shoe cord kept tugging the flash sideways or knocking the 'diffuser' loose. the cord is too tightly coiled, needs to be relaxed lol
mickey mouse, huh? :)
lol maybe what you were really asking for was: main light 580ex + diffuser on ettl at 45 degrees right & 45 degrees top; bounce card 45 degrees behind subject (sounds much better when i put it that way ;) )

I really want to try this one out but they don't have it at any of the stores near me and I don't feel like ordering it then possibly returning it.
This looks like it would be a great portrait/walk around lens for my rebel XT but I'm worried about the conversion factor. 80mm (if I'm correct) seems a little narrow for a portrait/walk around lens. Or do I just like to get too close? :)

yeah it really is a bit too long for a walkaround IMO,
have a look into the sigma 30mm 1.4 or the canon 28 1.8,
both perfect legnths for walkaround on a crop sensor,
i have the 28 1.8 and im loving it,
sigma will give you that extra bit of lenience with the aperture but wont work on a sensor anything larger than an APS-C crop 1.6

I'd like the 28mm but it's not exactly in the $80 price range. lol. That's what is so great about this lens. It's so freakin' cheap!! I might just end up getting it sometime even if I only use it once a month. Considering most lens worth any value are at LEAST 250-300 this is worth it even if I have to get used to the 80mm conversion.
