:)

He has quite an intensive stare... But really, he's just a big softie, one of the kindest (and smartest) cat's I've ever seen.

To see more pictures of him (Snickers), click the pic below

That one and many of the images in the gallery have been taken with the 50/1.8.
Snickers is pretty badass, some great picures! Love this one

So he doesnt run away or anything in the woods? That's super cool!

Well, sometimes... Once , when we had been in the forest for 1,5h, he ran on me on purpose (didn't want to go home, while he was having fun...) I searched for him for another hour and a half, but when I didn't find him I left the forest to get a shower and bite to eat (it's not very far from the house). When I got back, Snickers was crying under the tree where he lost me, replying with a sad meow every time I called his name... He didn't run on me once during the rest of the year :D
Since then, I got him a radio transmitter which can be attached to the collar and helps locate him. You can see the transmitter in this pic:

Where did you get the transmitter? I'd like to get a couple for our cats.

Hello Mike. The receiver / transmitter is from a Finnish firm called Tracker Inc. The product is called PetFinder. It's an RF based product and it helps you determine the approximate direction and distance of th pet and gets more accurate to closer you get. The firm also offers more accurate GPS products, but they are heavier and more expensive - the cat might resent the weight.

The bad thing about them getting in your yard is that they like to dig for insects. Leaving little holes all in your yard. lol. As a pet, I wouldn't know how they are.

you'll prolly like the WAP better then the zoo. Can get closer to the animals and they seem to be allot more active. I'd HIGHLY suggest going before summer when it's hot, its in the valley and can easly get 10* hotter then up the hill. Took about 600 shots throughout the day there, and still didn't see everything.

Just stumbled on this thread! There are some great images in here.

Prodigy - Nice flower shot!

I just shot with one 430exii and my 50mm f/1.8 (a change for me) yesterday. I was fairly pleased with the results! My mom asked me to take some photos of my sister while I was home for spring break, so here they are! Let me know what you think or what I could do better! Thanks!

These look so much better large and on black... Check my flickr to see them that way, if you want!

thanx guys,,, i spend alot of time just PP my pics, the old lady's one took me few hours to get it done,, my target is to gain some sort of Dragons PP style :) his pp really brings the pic up, gives it some kind kind of 3dness ,,, you still need a good sharp pic to start with

Your problem is photobucket. Photobucket destroys your images. Try flickr instead. Or better yet, find some free hosting.

This is exactly what I just asked on another thread - my photos look great on my software but once uploaded to FB they do not look as good at all. Any suggestions?

jasongraaf

As we discovered in another thread, Photobucket goes through all of the images uploaded and compresses them a few days after they are posted. What I've found is that sharpness isn't hurt too much, but large flat areas really suffer and become pixelated.

Flickr doesn't do this, and has a much nicer and more helpful user interface, in my opinion. One thing that I've noticed though, is that the images on the flickr site appear very soft, but they look fine when embedded on this site. Not sure why that is....

50mm is a pretty good walk around lens, pretty bad for wide views, i would recomand a 17-50 f2.8 as a perfect walk around lens:)

Although doing it that way does violate flickr's ToS.

If you use the URL of the images page as the url and the jpeg url from the bottom of the "all sizes" page (usually begins with "www.farm5.static....." as the image to display it conforms to flickr's ToS and acts as a link through to the flickr page fro the image.

The code should look something like this;

i sometimes use it for a walkaround lens too & find it both fun & a bit on the challenging side - i wouldn't use it out in the countryside but around town i have/do :)

you'll prolly like the WAP better then the zoo. Can get closer to the animals and they seem to be allot more active. I'd HIGHLY suggest going before summer when it's hot, its in the valley and can easly get 10* hotter then up the hill. Took about 600 shots throughout the day there, and still didn't see everything.

Hey thanks for the tips. I'd like to see that place one of these days when I drive down to SD.

Depends very much on the format of your camera. On my FF camera it's pretty good, and is in fact the focal length I had as my only option for many years of photography. On your cropped sensor camera it's equivalent to an 80mm, and would be too narrow for most people as a walk-around lens.

Here's another one of my sister! My mom asked me to do some shots of her while I was home from school... View larger on flickr, if you're interested... I was pretty pleased with the sharpness of the 50mm f/1.8 on this shoot. This was at f/2.0!

Haha She's 15!! HDR literally stands for high dynamic range... So, technically speaking, it might be...? Haha But, usually HDRs are achieved by blending exposures. The program Photomatix is good for this, but the effect is often overdone.

That being said, I did not do any HDR post-processing on this image. It's more likely considered a "strobist" shot, considering that I used a strobe (flash) off camera... Hope this info is somewhat helpful! Thanks for the feedback!

after use it a while.. i still sometime think that this lens is too narrow..

perhaps 35mm will be better.. coz everytime i tried to make a picture.. i should stand at least 2m from the object.. such as the starbucks banner.. it was pretty far from my seat so that i can reach the whole thing..

FYI, i use APS-C cam (Canon 500D)

peterbj7
25th of March 2010 (Thu), 11:12
The traditional "standard" lens for film photography was 50mm, and that's all that many people had. With a 1.6 crop camera you would get the same FFE from a lens with actual focal length of 31.25. So a 30 (which would be my choice) or a 35.

wenzz
25th of March 2010 (Thu), 11:43
that's what i was going to say.. it look a bit narrow for me.. but if i hv to keep this lens and choose a wider one.. i'd rather go back to my lens kit.. cause i'm looking forward for tokina 11-16 very soon..

it's cheap to buy it in hongkong since they're all duty free goods

What I'd really like is a digital equivalent to my old Minox 35ML. Tiny, silent, no shutter lag, very high quality images, utterly inconspicuous.
