Is it generally true that Canon issues rebates on camera bodies that it plans to stop producing soon so they can release an updated version?

no idea, but id like to know this also.

im thinking no, because after a rebate, they'll just have a price drop on the xt's.

then again... the 300D's didnt drop THAT much after the 350D came out... :(
