View Full Version : I don't know

I took this picture at my Dad's new camping/hunting cabin that he built. I was trying to get a wall hanger for him because he is so proud to finally have his cabin. He has owned this 300+ acre farm for as long as I can remember. He always would talk about building his little cabin to get away from it all.

For some stupid reason I took this shot with the built in 20D sepia toning. Before you say anything, yes I know better, for some reason I did it. I worked with it a little to bring as much back as I could. It was pretty flat originally.

A part of me really likes the photo, but I don't know if that is just my bias. Hence the reason for posting it here.

Rip me apart (not literally). Does it work? Give a mood or certain feeling?

Thanks in advance,
Travis

I love shots like this - they tell a story.
If there were a couple of things I'd comment in the negative on - it'd be the rag next to the (is it a pump of some kind??) - it looks a lottle out of place, and also, running from there, and it looks like the Toffee tin is propped on it - is a piece of wood? It looks strangely soft and out of focus - really odd.... I just can't tell what it is!
But the general ambiene is there without doubt, overall i like it...

Thanks Anamorph. The Toffee tin is resting on the backsplash of the counter. I agree it does look a little weird if you can't put it into context. The rag infront of the water pump was used to block much of the wood under the pump. I didn't want to block it all. The wood block just looked too "new" to be in this shot.

Thanks for the feedback.

It's an interesting exposure. I like the light, except for the brightness around the bottom of the pump. The new/light wood there doesn't seem to fit.

I like everything, including the rag, except for the tin. It draws from the pump.

If you reshoot, see if you can find a gingham check towel/rag, preferrably one that is frayed, to use and move the tin :)
